mysidekicgoose is your car a V8 or I6??? and is it a tight fit for that top bolt for you??? if so i kno personally that top bolt can really screw up your alignment even if the bottom one is really tight. make sure its not striped either and is right. i replace my tranny this summer earlier and in my v8 its a pain to get that top bolt and i thought i had it right and so did my lil brother and that starter would not engage right. once i got that top bolt in right there was no problems and it worked perfect. so ya double check your starter and what not, wouldnt hurt

my mav is a 250 straight 6 with a 4 speed i believe. (ive tried to count the gears when they shift lol) its actually quite spacious especially between the firewall and the engine. though tht doesnt mean tht tht top bolt isnt throwing off the ailignment. ive been wanting to pull the engine and trans out and do a complete rebuild but with money short and time too its been difficult..

yeah i know your what u man haha. my years through high school i worked as much as i could to save money for a v8 and worked two jobs when i could haha. my last year of high school i finally got my v8 done and do my work my self. i skipped all senior things i didnt have to go to like the sneek and even state track that i qualified for haha just to get my v8 in hahaha............ if i were you ide maybe call a parts store and see how many differnt types of starters there are for your manual maverick and see what the difference is. it could be teeth difference or something. so check that if you have time haha. if not let me kno cuz were i live the parts places are still open haha. its just barely 5 here and most close at 6 or 10 pm haha

yea im definately looking at getting a v8. (and i forgot to mention its automatic) actually ive gone through a lot of plans like getting a mitsubishi eclipse because im a fan of tht car and cause its great on gas. rite now im driving my moms 94' celica and it does great on gas. ive also thought about buying this 65 mustang thts for sale near me. its in good running shape and i no it would be the coolest choice if i did hehe. anything tht'll get me to a job will do. ive been having some serious problems getting a job and i would work 2 if i could. my car is my life rite now becuse without it i have no way to even drive to a job or to college wherever i go.. eventually i will get tht v8, no matter wat. but rite now ill be happy when shes purring hehe. my dad started it up to move it which was a feat in itself cause of all the stuff with it and just hearing tht engine go made me feel soo great lol.

I have the same problem when I try to start the car. My car doesn't run because the coil isn't sending a spark to the dizy. On top of that sometimes it happens that when I crank the engine, it stays cranking even after I turn the key off, very much like mysidekickgoose was going through. Can anybody help me with this. I have a 6 cyl 200 CI engine. Accel super stock coil, and pertronix ignitior inside the dizzy. Any help i will greatly appreciate it :)

all signs lead to starter cylinoid. some will say dont do this but its an old trick when the car wont stop cranking take a wrench or something hard and smack the top of the starter cylinoid a couple of times to see if it stops.
I had an old ford truck that had every problem you could think of and this happened a few times and thats what it was every time I would have to go out and SMACK that starter cylinoid and it would stop cranking.

the starter binding is definitely a alignment problem or a bad flywheel take the dust cover off the transmission and look at the teeth on the flywheel see if theyre all chewed up

take the starter off and have it checked on a machine at the parts store and have it checked several times to see if it sticks or just plain gets tired and wont kick out any more

    good luck:Handshake
