Exactly what is involved in removing P/S? Is there a tech article on it or does someone care to share? I havent thought about it until I just saw this post. My P/S doesnt leak but its crazy going around curves in that thing, feels like it always want to oversteer

You don't need to change the tie rods unless they've got slack in the joints. Just the centerlink and pitman arm is all. The suggestion about the idler arm is a good one. When you take it all loose, that's a good time to remove the slack (if any) in the steering gearbox.

there is no advantage...manual steering is simply better than power...in our cars atleast...that is unless u get a msII front suspension...than i'd go with a power rack. (rack and pinion steering has much less play than parallelogram steering especially with a power assist)

The ford power-assist system sucks. Period. Too much play before the power valve kicks in and does it's job.

I would either go full manual (as I have done, with nice and tight steering, no slop, no swim, etc. ) or switch to a power system that is aftermarket that works out all the slop, which I would assume the aftermarket MII kits would do.

Yes, power is nice, if you don't mind swimming back and forth 4 inches each way with the steering wheel to keep the car on the road in a straight line...

I have a question. I have not even started restoring my 72 Maverick yet but it does have power steering on it. I would think if properly rebuilt or replaced it should not leak but what do I know? lol
My question: Is there anybody on here that remembers driving a NEW Maverick or Comet with power-steering? Did it steer too easy like said here and did it leak?
