I THINK YOU'RE PRETTY CLOSE WITH YOUR VACUUM LEAK DIAGNOSTICS. I WOULD JUST START BY CHECKING LINES AND SUCH. ALWAYS BE SURE THE VACUUM HOSES LOOK GOOD AND NOT DRY ROTTED (YOU PROLLY ALREADY KNOW THAT). NORMALLY IDLE PROBLEMS AREN'T ASSOCIATED AROUND THE FUEL SYSTEM UNLESS SOMETHING IS STOPPED UP. BRING IT TO CENTRAL KY. AND ILL TAKE A LOOK AT IT... AND WONT COST YA ANYTHING. MIGHT TAKE IT OUT IN TRADE?!? :D

I would check the vaccuum hoses under your dash.. The heater controls might be vaccuum operated and one of the lines off or bad.. congrats on getting in a Mag. Mine is still in pieces but going to be painted (AGAIN) this weekend. :) Oh! just thought of something you might check too. Pull a vaccuum on the advance canister and se if there is a slight leak there.. hope this helps.. Tom

ugh i need a specialist near fresno. I checked all the hoses they r in good condition, i believed most were replaced when i took it in to get it check out by the guys who rebuilt my engine. I think the leak might b from under the dash. Im having a hard trouble turning off my heater. it wont shut off!! and the ac wont come on. But now it really wont come on due to i drained out the system and melted a hose on to the exhaust manifold. oops my bad:huh:

as for the smog i took it all off, i mean gone for ever, some of it resides in the trunk and garage but its all gone, damn california and its smog laws. im a rebel  .
so i think i might have to take it in and have it looked at professionally. Someone locally suggested that the electric shoke might not b working right either. heres y

when i start it up in the mornings it runs then shuts itself off but shakes real bad, like a really bad idle, like running to lean. i gotta sit there with the foot on the gas to warm it up then let it run on its own but still shakes real bad. after driving it around for 10 minutes at 45mph then it stops doing it.
now u tell me what u think.

    bad idle

Well. I think your right about the choke. you can test that theory by taking off the breather in the morning and see if the choke is closed. If it is; you could be over choking the engine... If it's not; you need to set it so that its almost closed when the engine is cold and it is cool outside.. being in California do you get very many cold days?? Did you check the vaccuum advance canister to see if it held a vaccuum? ( I feel the heckling about to begin ) Take the vaccum hose from the carb and draw the air out of the canister. You can do that with your mouth. :yikes: Then quickly put your finger over the end to stop the air from rushing back in, and see if it holds the vaccuum. If there are no leaks it will hold indefinitly. hope this helps

I went to the store to get the magazine but they had none..:slap:

if the vaccum canister is the round black thing in the corner hiding under the thingy that the a/c lines hook up to then that canister is not hooked up. theres one line that comes out of the firewall into it, but no line leaves it, it got broken off by my dad,(his bad:huh: ).

i asked a mechanic about it and he said i didnt need it. i guess ome guys tihnk all girls r stupid when it comes to cars. I blocked off the egr valve. im so going to need help re-routing these lines the right way.

as for the choke, there a few cold days right now, but the news says that will soon disappear, so i better get working on that but i bet my bottom dollar its the choke. I think im just going to get a new carb, this one is gone. Anybody know where i could get a decent one? remember im a college student, i dont have a lot of money.
ill take some pics to show u guys, then u guys can tell me whats wrong.

:Welcome: i would definately try to get the heat/ac thing singled out for vac leaks. also, the vacuum canister isnt "necessary" but guys with radical cams add them because they hold the vacuum on the system. so if you could get that back into the loop, it will help a little to make up for minor leaks. the choke is needed even in fresno. although not as long, (ahh yes i remember the nice 100+ afternoons driving the grabber to downtown with no a/c  )also, LBR is a member in that vicinity that drag races his mav. if you ask him, he may be able to help you out sometime.I hope something in there helped. BTW, theres a regional meeting in reno in june if you search for the western regional meet. would be great if you could join us. (y)
