Xtasea, with the plans for Toad Suck park, it would be ideal for camping. The pavillions that are usually used are on the east side of the Arkansas river, on the west side, across the bridge, is the RV and camping area with dump and hook ups etc. The park was a ferry crossing for cars for years until the bridge and dam was built, way back when. It had a tavern on the bank of the river and the locals, who were tea totalers and still are for the most part, claimed the tavern patrons sucked on the bottles till they blew up like toads. Hence the Toad Suck legend began. Is a lock and dam also for tow boats etc. Fun place to say you have been too, lots of souvenoirs available in Conway, for sale. Hope to make there myself with the 73 4dr, hopfully someone will take it home too. May bring Mavmans 75 race car on the trailer being it is an off weekend for brackets. Those who want too, can go up to the track Sat. night and TNT or race, for 10.00. It is about an hour west but easy access to I-40 for the return trip home.
Dave, Do you know the # to the place? I tried looking it up today as "Toad Suck park" "Toad Suck Lock and Dam" etc and no luck. I need to reserve us a pavilion. Jim and myself are co-hosting the mini-meet. I hopefully will have my comet at least put back together motor wise for the event. Not sure. Currently talking about swapping trucks with my brother, so may have a way to pull it also. Hope to see you all there.
Toad Suck Park mini meet Ok, If you are coming to the park, take I-40 north from little Rock toward ft. smith. its about 30 miles, get off on exit 129,take Dave Ward Drive back over the interstate 40. You will pass over a railrod overpass, past Ward School Bus Mfg. Plant, continue forward past Walmart til the road intersects with highway 60. Just before the stop sign you will see a large naval anchor.that is the entrance to the picnic area and pavilion area.Thats where we will be. The RV Area is across the dam and the road circles around under the dam. Hope to see you all there.
RV Parks in the Conway area according to my 2005 Trailer Life RV Park Directory Toad Suck Cherokee Park 501-329-2986 Morrilton-Conway KOA 501-354-8262 Petit Jean State Park 501-727-5441
The Toad Suck Cherokee park may be it. Not sure. THere is another park on the river about a mile or 2 but totally different way to get to it. Has a park and stuff, but nothing good for what we will be doing. It's part of the "Trail of tears"
That link is for the Festival, which is no longer held at the location due to the river being up and raining for several years in a row Its held downtown now. Still havent found anything on renting a pavillion. Will do more searching today
See you guys there! Hopefully I'll have a car running then. There may be a chance I show up in something other than a Maverick.
Camping These campgrounds are too far away for convenience. The one at Toad Suck is the choice for the meet. Has playgrounds and also can fish in the river or a couple of ponds behind the jettys if the water is low enough. Not sure about showers and overnight rates. Used to be 5.00 a few years ago.
My guide has the prices in it I can look them up. It says how many sites and what facilities are available also. If you give me some names of other towns in the vacinity I can see what is listed.
