That looks good! I've done a few murals for friends and family and know just how much work went into that!! I cheat though, I get an image of what I want to put on the wall, print it out on a transparancy, break out an old overhead projector I got at a government auction, and trace the image on the wall with a pencil or a sharpie. After that it's just filling in the spaces and staying in the lines. -Scott H.
Thanks. One thing that's cool about the Hot Wheels stuff is that it's one of just a few things he and I can both get into in the same way. We're actually sharing a hobby. I think this is the kind of thing that builds good memories. I did make grid lines on the wall to help me keep the proportions and perspective right on the car, but it was otherwise freehanded. Completely eyeballed the logo and the checkers. Originally I'd planned to borrow an LCD projector from work but that didn't happen... Made me pretty nervous until I'd got the initial drawing on the wall. After that it was on. I wish I could! I'm itching to do this again, really. I wish there was more space in his room and more places in my house where I could paint. I guess I could do canvas, but there's something I like about the presence and hugeness of doing it on a wall. Maybe Reilly's little friend down the street needs Thomas the Train on his wall...
Thats awesome. Looks really great. I would have loved to have that on my wall as a kid. Hell I'd love to have it on my wall now but the whole wife thing.... Ya know.
Simply awesome! That kid of yours will remember this as one of his great memories when his a grown man. I could use some of those images on my catering truck
What a GREAT story and fantastic job I can remember my wife painting my sons room with grass all around the bottom and little bugs and ants and caterpillars but I like the car theme way better way to go!!!!!!!!
Update... The room is finally finished! New laminate floor, much better for building things and rolling toy cars around: A place to display his collection where he can keep it safe and organized but still take cars down to play with: (Woefully inadequate; I've already got a second one ordered. Didn't know just how many cars he had until we hauled everything out of the room.) New bed sheets! And of course his giant Maverick: Yeah, that's genuine Lego right there. Test driving the new sheets:
