thanks Earl..i get the headmans tomorrow so ill see what they look like..what heads are you using? the RHS seem to be the issue here as the angle of the plug runs it real close to the header
Dont know how close the rhs are to worlds windsor series heads but i ran headmans on mine with nary a plug issue
I am running Racing Head Service Pro Action 180 cc Cast Iron Heads. I am also running Doug Thorley shortie headers. I had to have the header tubes heated and bent a little in order to clear the spark plugs. I have NO issues now.
I have a question on this subject! I assume Eric is running a 302 based engine. From what I can see the towers have been modified. I don't have a lot of experience w/ these engines and learning everyday. The experience I've had w/ Fords were w/ the FE based engines, decades ago. My car purchase 3 yrs ago is the only exp I have w/ these engines. I have headers on my car " not sure what kind". The engine has ci heads "agn- unknown make". I have only replaced ig wires and plugs once. I was dreading the plug change... to my suprise... once I removed the AM wire looms ... changing the plugs were a breeze... took abt 45 mins at a leisure pace. "I have learned to work under hood at leisure pace in order not to crack my head on that protruding hood latch" OUCH... Whoever put the plugs in must have used something,"antisieze maybe" on the threads, cuz they came out easily. I put some antisieze on the new plugs. My wires are univ. 302/351 based, a bit long, straight boots. I have had no issues w/ burning of wires. The plugs angle out in a way they pose no hazard to wires. I am wondering whether plug angles on different mfg's heads are positioned/angled different?
Thanks for that information. Since my car is just a driver; I don't see me changing them any time soon. Maybe never. Not looking to make any head aches .. just/only to go KRUIZING
Got back with the hedmans after work.. I have a couple words I'd liketo say... - I cannot even get the plugs in the heads with them..what next?
You got to do some "tweaking". No way around it. I did it to a set of $350+ Doug Thorley's.....then had to have them Jet Hot coated again.
Can you do me a favor...............do you still have the old headers along with the new Headmans...............if so, can you take a picture of both of them on the floor.................with the header flange laying on the ground. It looked like your heads had the plugs pointing towards the rear of the car, is that right or are they pointing forwards?
Sorry I am late to posting to this thread. This is ALL you need to know right HERE: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=32902&highlight=Doug+Thorley
I still have the hedmans, the plugs on drivers point towards the rear.. I ordered a set of shortyy hedmans as they look like they come off the head straighter and if they go on I will probably massage them with the ballpeen hammer.. I don't think it's much of a power loss from shortys to longtubes is it..? Thanks for that Craig. Wish I found that post a long time ago though..before I got the heads lol. Saturday these headers arrive and I'tll be another fightt, hopefully easier then longtubes! I hate my life incase anyone was wondering.
What was it about the RHS heads that made you choose them? What block size are you using? Just curious about the specifics cause I would not want to be where your at..
I hear u Darren... Im not. I enjoy tinkering w/ the car and making some upgrades. At this point in my life, I like racking up the miles, hangin out w/ fellow car guys. The last thing I want is for the car to be setting somewhere unusable cuz I created a problem ... for the sake of change. I hp Eric gets this issue resolved w/o more frustration. If a situation came abt where I had to rebuild my engine, I wud stick w/ what's on the engine now, especially externally, since I see the problem Eric is experiencing.
