You could turn a Maverick into a Comet. The hardest part will be, you will have to drill out the spot welds that hold the tail panel in place, and weld a tail light panel from a Comet in. That's what I am doing to my '73 project car, but I am sticking with the Maverick front end. The tail light panel is the only difference as far as the basic body shell goes. The hood, grille, and everything else will bolt right on a Maverick. And to make things easier, the tail light panels between 4 doors and two doors is the same. So if you found an old 4 door Comet in a junkyard or something, you could cut the tail panel out of it and use it in your 2 door.

Hi Welcome. I have a 73 comet. This is my second one, (sold the first one long ago); and I love 'em. I think that they just had a little more trim detail, you know, this and that. It gave the comets just a little upscale look. Sorry Mav. guys, nothing personal. I like the grabbers, too. I will always be a fan of both. I get a lot of people talking to me about the car, and lots of thumbs up. I hope that you find a GT. I am still hoping to find one for sale up here in Canada.

    MercFan,

Again, welcome here. You are correct about MercuryCougar.Net. There are plenty of nice people there, too. I use the username The XRcist there.
