i grabed the fan and gave the engine a few rotations, the piston came all they wat to TDC and back down with no prob. didnt feel any binding or anything. and the whole length of the wall is still completly smooth. not the slightest nick in it suprisingly. few years ago i cracked a piston offf the rod in my olds, the cylinder wall in that was a sight to be had!

the maverick definatly made it out of this one pretty good all things considered. even limped it about 4 miles home on 5 cylinders

Do you still have the six out of your other car?

one of my biggest regrets is that i sold that for dirt cheap just to get rid of it. never thought i'd have another 250 car that could use the electronic ign or in this case the whole motor

If it were mine, being a six, I would hone it by the way it looks in the pics. Maybe it's worse in person tho...

as bad as i hate to, i would agree... lol. but yeah, it looks like most of it could be honed out. but if nothing else you can always come down to Ky and ill give you a 250 if u need one :) or i could sell you a 302 if u wanna go that route :thumbs2:

nah, the pics are just about how it looks in person. just those tiny nics in it. there is a decent ridge at the top tho that might be an issue

i can deal with a little smoke and slightly lower CR in one out of 6

I'm thinking hone, piston w/ rings, rod and wrist, all new bearings, reconditioned ported polished head, cam, V8... ok, no V8 lol. :D

the thought of a mild 6 build does sound like something i'd like to be a part of. ive already got the hopped up v8 maverick. no reason to try to build the same car twice

Hone that bore,it will be fine.As for the head, definitely 2 new valves.Looks like your going to need a valve seat insert on that puppy, that seat cant be fixed.Make sure you knock all the sharp edges off those dings in the head too or they will cause detonation/pre-ignition(hot spots)If you can swing the cost,do that head up good.Port/polish the whole 9 yds.If you go the 250 route wont you need a different bell housing for the trans???good luck Tony.

that already is a 250 so i can just drop another one in

i'd like to think i could get away with just a hone but some other people i kno are no where near as optimistic

Dang. Didn't I just read another thread about a failed starter? Grandma always said things come in three's. Starter bad, dropped valve....what's next?

Sorry to hear about the problems. Sounds like you're working your way through.

    Good luck
