Really is amazing how much damage was done to the fender, but left the hood completely intact and straight
Seems like a fender and few other things but maybe since the hood isn't touched the maybe the structure isn't tweeked
Gaps are good on the door, hood, and other fender, but the apron is definitely bent up. Crush sleeve on the pass. tie rods is bent pretty good, hopefully the spindle is ok. So it appears there is no unibody damage besides the core support/apron/tray area. Even the radiator and battery are intact.
If they do total the car you can buy it back from them for a song. I had a 94 Escort that was totalled, they paid me the value of the car ( which was very generous) I paid off my loan, and then bought the car back for $750 this was in 1999, My mother is still driving that car to this day. They just deducted the cost to buy it back off the amount they paid me, so what ever you do if they total the car tell them you want to buy it back!
I might add i had a 75 Mav that was totalled back in 1980, moved the front bumper and front clip over about 6 inches ( he ran a red light) they offered to sell the car back to me after settling on the amount, I wish like heck i'd have bought that car back I'd have to this day if I did that.
Ouch .. that sucks! Sorry to hear (and see) about the wreck. Hopefully most of the damage is just bolt on pieces ..
Man, glad you guys are okay. This thread would have been better without pics, now I have a tear in my eye... I hope they don't try to total it. I believe they take your title and send you back a salvage title. I wonder if you can get the deal done without surrendering the title? Make up some excuse not to send it to them and push the deal through...
Bruce; glad to hear you both are ok. Hang in there, and get it fixed. They ain't making any more of them!
Now I hate mini vans even more.Sorry to hear about your misfortune.Get your girls back checked out pronto by a doctor.I live with 2 herniated discs w/bone degeneration due to the herniation. It aint fun.Hopefully its just a muscle strain but get her checked out today if you havent allready.Insurance companies are funny about stuff like that. And dont signe any release of liability forms till you have her medically checked out.Good luck my freind I wish you and your girl the best.
Start putting you case together NOW. Get selling prices, before photos of your car. Go to nada.com for vehicle values. Start stacking the deck on the value and condition. Don't let the insurance company total it. It will be reported as a salvage car and as such you can have trouble insuring it or supporting the future value. In California they require a lot to get it back on the street and insurance companies are refusing to insure them. When they do, salvage value is pennys. Fight this with all you can unless all you want it for is parts. If they insist, then tell them they have to make you whole and as such they must replace the vehicle with a like condition (pre accident) Maverick at street value... Get those prices and values documented.
Listen to Bob! I had a minivan total my cherry 72 BBC Monte Carlo. Her insurance co tried to give me $500 for the car. They said anything older than so many years was only worth $500 per company policy... too bad, so sad. My company told me just what Bob said. When all was said and done, my insurance paid me $6300 for the car (1997 money), and sent her insurance company a bill! Cheezed them off... I could have got the car back for $400, but it was FAR worse than your Mav. (head on collision) Anyway, I couldn't have done it without documenting the value of every BBC MC I could find for sale at the time and getting the values/asking prices/sale prices averaged.
