Honestly, I'm now a little more down than when the car actually got hit. This will never be an original paint car again, and the insurance refuses to paint the whole car, obviously. It's just not going to be as fun to drive, knowing I have a valence and fender that don't match the rest of the car. Can't have everything though. Thanks for all the words and help so far fellow Mavericker's. I have sent people messages about parts, I need to get all the big stuff within the next week.

Make sure the car goes to a good shop that knows how to blend paint. The last thing you want is to have the fender a different shade than the hood and door.Remember red paint is the worst for fading.

Yeah a good shop knows how to blend the new paint onto the areas that werenm't damaged i had a metallic green car that was 3 years old and had to have the drivers door repaired (someone backed into it) and they painted the entire side of the car, up onto the front fender and even the hood, roof and back door. Dude if you can see where it was painted refuse it until they do it right! I am amazed at how many cars run around where the car clearly has a newly painted panel that is just slightly off the color and "depth" of the rest of the car.

I got shop choice and am having a nationally recognized rod shop do the repairs, I know the family that owns it by acquaintance. They said they will do everything they can to get it as exact as possible, but they're never going to match 37 year old original bright red paint that has seen its share of sun and polish. We will see what happens.

sounds like now would be a good time to just get the whole car sprayed then

I considered that, but the car needs a lot of smoothing to fix all the little dings and dents accumulated on original paint over the years. I'm afraid it would cost me too much out of pocket to cover the rest of the paint job, even with my relationship with the shop.

Here's some quick after shots, need to repaint the stone guard red, and paint the grill black.
