I can't say this 100% but I thought all cars were required to have shoulder harnesses begining in 1968 and trucks followed around 71 or 72. Many cars have had them removed but I think they were there from day 1 on all Mavs.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
I always thought the seat belt requirement was in 1974, since that's when they did the interlock feature. But your right.

My 69.5 came the same way but I'll never use them unless I can get the car off of the jack stands

The law says seat belt not shoulder belt.....I beat a tcket for this KY in my mav about 7 years ago.....Since it was factory installed....They will give you a ticket for a 5 point harness....since it is not a seat belt but a "harness" . Total BS but the law is the law, and you can minipulate it if you got some sense. You can come out a head in some instances.....I used that exact arguement to befuddle the arrogant judge. He wasn't happy at all the snikers as he was forced to dismiss my case....felt sorry for the next guy.

He said only factory seat belts are legal. No harnesses. I said my car has the factory seat belt. I showed him a pictire of the "Seat" Belt. He argued I had no shoulder" Harness" It gave me an out....I said but you just said harnesses were illegal.....:dancing:

I use my belt but not the shoulder. Back in the day the early Mavs. were recalled for the shoulder strap because they had a plastic buckle that would break from the seat belt latch on impact. Back then not many used them so I never took mine in. If your shoulder strap has the plastic loop it won't do you much good in a hit. We should all up grade these.

Wouldn't some cars from 1974 not start if the drivers seat wasn't buckled?
