thanks guys. but right now it sucks cause school is closed for christmas break for two weeks and i cant work on it. so im very bored with out a project to work on. but one thing thats giving me trouble is picking the color scheme. the first one i chose some one already did. and i cant stand doing the same as every one else. i was going to do a dark met. blue and black twotone. now im thinking on doing a pearl white and black two tone or silver. but ive got some time to think about it...
Great project! You are really getting stuff done. It's gonna be a fun ride. What mechanical upgrades do you plan on?
Welcome aboard man, I can definitely identify with a Comet like that(mine is '71). You got a lot of work ahead of you, and a lot of time to plan out what you actually want to do. For mine personally, I decided to do what I could to keep everything stock, as it was in '71, sans a few "modern upgrades" like the transition from drum to disc brakes, and with that, the move from 4 lug to 5 lug wheels. But yeah, definitely keep us posted on your progress, as someone with a similar car, it'll be interesting to follow your progress, and see if I can pick up any tips for myself.
eventuly i want to put a 351w, 5lug disc brakes, manual steering, and posi traction. the motor will be after college. but for now i cant decide what i want for a paint scheme.
Haha, you'll change your mind at least twenty or so times on the paint. The paint is the last thing I'm doing, and I've narrowed it down to two paint schemes.
ya, its a pain to figure out what i want. but i cant decide between midnight blue and pearl white. either way its going to have a black two tone... -kris
If you make it down to my place, I can show you why a 347 or 331 stroker makes so much more sense than a 351. A 302-based motor fits ...
well if you wanted to meet up next week end i can see if im off work. to bad my comet isnt drivable or id bring it. you dont know how hard it is not driving it, i want to drive it so bad, when i try it wont steer, i guess that would help. lol. any way let me know.
A dozen years ago, when I did the 351 swap, stroker kits weren't as cheap and easy to get as now. Put a 351 in and the exhaust is a very tight fit. Not a lot of room for a good intake either. I have an Edelbrock Performer on mine, pretty short, and still I cut the hood. I would much rather have an Air Gap but it is taller. The oil filter is close to rubbing too. A 347 is 4 cubes smaller ... not much difference. HP and torque ought to be comparable. I understand 331s rev well, and are not as involved to build too, so that might be where I go next. These cars are light enough, that any of these engines will really wake them up. There are some really good-running 302s out there as well. Kutlass, I am going to be very busy in the next couple weeks. My work shut down for Christmas week, and I'll be playing catch-up. I am also in a band, and we have some stuff coming up there too.
thats cool. that acualy works better because i forgot that im going to my brothers house the weekend. just let me now when your not busy, hopfuly when your not busy i wont be either.lol
well this week end i decided to stay home to get some odds and ends done on the comet. I took off the bumper braces and sandblasted then i primed and painted them. the paint is gloss black. they came out pretty good. ill post pics later, im charging the batterys.
