ok, I guess I could try that.

I will try that and see what happens. I'm going to need a fitting to go in the block though, will my autoparts store have one?

I am still confused why that valve is there if my car never had A/C?

Maybe I'll take pictures later and show you.

Green; just remove the valve and put a piece of pipe in betweent he hose ends. The valve should be in the rubber hose, not anywhere near the block. Good luck!

    hmm...

ok, well there is something just on the block with two vacuum lines coming off of it. I just drove the car around town and got it really warm. Went under the hood and felt both lines coming in and out of the firewall and they where both really warm. So I assume that the coolant is flowing through freely...

Could something be blocking the heater core from the blower?

The cable is attached to the lever and it is deffinetlly moving something. I can hear it?

The car sat in a garage for 10 years. My father thinks there might be a mouse nest in there blocking the heater core from the fan or something? How would I check for this?

Green; stupid question...is the fan motor running? Check that out. No heat without it.

    I had this problem once....

I see the OP has solved his heat problem, but I thought I'd mention that Ethel, my beloved 72 Mav had no heat the first two years I drove her back in the early 80'. I drove 100 miles home form college one weekend a month with lots of clothing and a couple of coats on. Miserable way to live. Third fall, I told myself I was going to find the problem. Installed new heater core and checked all you all mentioned. Turned out, the blower cage and duct work were full of leaves. Too clogged up for the heated air to get to the vents. Funny how a little thing like that makes all the difference in the world. That was a long time ago.... I wish my problems NOW could all be that simple to solve.
