hmmm, didn't know photshop did that. I just use a cheap picture viewer called CompuPic. Right click on the picture, choose the smaller version, save...done. Doesn't change the compression, but changes the picture quality and size.

I will look at my photoshop and check that out. Hope my old version has it 6.0 or something like that....

It should... I use 5.5 and it has it. Just open the pic in Photo Shop, resize it to what you want, then go to File - Save for Web, it should come up with another window giving you some more options so you can fine tweak it before saving.

Cool! I might take my laptop during the holidays and work on my pictures. If I find some time where I am not playing in the water or jet-skiing...

speaking of which, it is unusually warm down here in south Texas considering it is the end of December. I took the jet ski out again yesterday and wore only my swimtrunks and ski-vest...even dumped it once and fell off, and was not uncomfortably cold. Usually, it is cold enough that your toes burn as soon as you get wet.

Well, thanks to Stefan and his suggestion for that picture program, and the fact that I got up at 5am and the wife and dog are still in bed at 8:30...

I resized all my pics twice, once at 1024X768, then again to 800X600. This reduced my 17M of pics down to a little over 11. I also deleted about 50 pics (of the original 170), and hope I didn't detract from the website too much. Mostly they were engine profiles and body profiles as the car and engine changed.

I tried to leave some pics that showed the body changes but not so many that were almost identical.

I also left more pics where I showed the steps in some of the more common projects, such as front and rear tire size and clearance, subframe connectors, dualled exhaust, small-bumper swap, and restoration and prepping of bodywork.

This will buy me a little time until I can get some other storage set up. This will also allow me to "grow" for another couple of years. Hopefully, I paint the car before I run out of storage space again...

    damned!!!

Now most of my pictures don't work...

Cannot figure out why, the pics are on the server, the links are all good, everything works in my FrontPage program and when I look at the pages directly from my harddrive copy, but when I try to view the pages on the internet, several of the pictures are not shown...

    Bear with me here...

well...the pictures that are not showing up are listed as .JPG, not .jpg, and I have not been able to figure out how to make the extensions lower case. Each time I do it, it shows back up with caps and won't appear on the web page...:hmmm::huh:

I often use a utility called Easy Thumbnails for our G8I site as well as resizing pictures to display here in the forums. I sure you all ready know this but some times people forget that Web space is for files to be displayed and not a storage area. I would suggest files that do not have active links be stored locally so as not to eat up your web space.

Well, i have tried everything I can think of, including renaming it in Frontpage, renaming it in a dos window, renaming it with the picture resizing program Stefan recommended, renaming it in my FTP window, renaming it with my picture viewing program, etc. Each time I do it, I pull it back up in frontpage and it still has the capital JPG and will not come up on the webpage...

It appears to be lower case every way I look at it, but when I hit properties in FrontPage, it show capital letters. And it won't show that picture on the net.

This is a common problem, according to a google search, but the solution is to just rename it with small letters. I just cannot get it to work...:banghead:

    Any other suggestions?

It is only about 1 in 4 pictures and it seems to be random...:hmmm:

I checked out your site and I must say Im impressed, I would like to link to it from my site if you don't mind. Also I looked at some of your missing graphics and it looks like you just need to change the extenions in your links to lower case. One more thing clear the cache in Web viewer

Feel free to link to my site. I am in the process of fixing all the .JPGs...I think I have all the names changed, I now need to relink all the dead pics to the pages.

Good point on clearing out my cache...I have already cleared out my CASH with all the Christmas shopping:huh:

Hawkco, I will tell Anna you said that:tiphat:

Come on Scoop, you can't type the HTML for that little web page up in notepad? :D

I would open your HTML files in notepad and just go in and manually change all the .JPG's. to lower case, then re upload them.

    I did that...

I ended up having to go through the entire web site, click properties on each picture that did not show up (about half of the 120 pics), and rename them *.JPG since FrontPage would not let me reassign the *.jpg names.

The entire site is back up and running, but not fixed the way I wanted to fix it...

I found absolutely no rhyme or reason for why FrontPage wanted some to be .JPG and the others .jpg...even pictures that were taken on the same day, 2 pictures in a row, put on the same webpage, etc. It was totally random...

Thank you for a wonderful 5-1/2 hours, mr. gates...[IMG]
