The ones in brazil have the chrome trim. Wish someone could duplicate that in the states.

That's the thing that caught my attention too, the chrome trim.

Is it really chrome? It's kinda hard to tell.
To me they look like plywood with vinyl glued to it.

Nice but not as nice as the others.

I have to say good luck to us on that..

That sounds like the second ones your talking about. And if not, that's some really nice looking plywood and vinyl and glue.. I would love a pair or two!

If you knew someone with a CNC router, you could buy some MDF (they really fine stuff), program the router to cut the dimension of the panel, with reliefs cut for the pattern, a little foam, some vinyl, and some glue, then use the chrome stick on trim..

I have thought the same thing. I just don't like MDF for anything. Toooo many other things to do for me to even begin to try and research doing a panel..

Hmm, I should ask the guy that cuts the wood for the consoles my buddy builds..they do it with a CNC router..with 1/4" plywood, and it comes out perfectly smooth.

IMO, MDF would simply be too weak/fragile by the time you got it down the the minimal/aesthetic thickness required to use it on as a backer for the upholstery. Good luck getting them off more than a few times without cracking. Plywood maintains is structural integrity much better at that thickness.

Me thinks vinyl sheeting(similar to a cutting board whatever type of plastic that is.. maybe HDPE?) would be much more durable and flexible enough to do that particular job.

And I'm guessing that trim is similar to the original stuff in that it's just chromed vinyl which allows it to be bent/worked with much eaiser.
