yea the part # on the web site is 268. currently I'm in 29 palms, CA where i bought the car but I'll be doing the 302 swap in MI where they do not do emmisions testing, at least in my area.
Long tube headers are better for HP. Don't use shorty's unless you don't have any other choice because you lose about 10% of your HP if you do use them.
So, you're saying a 500hp engine would lose about 50 hp just due to shorty headers? That seems a little drastic. Makes me wonder why shorty headers are so popular.
Is that what your little program told you on your computer? Desktop dyno is just a guide, okay. Have you ever had any real dyno time? I use a dynojet 248c (thats a chassis dyno ) I have racked up about 150 hours of dyno time on it myself. It records real world numbers. It measures air temp, humidity, and air fuel ratio via a wide band o2. When I put shorties on vehicles, It is not uncommon to see 10 % gains, not lose them.
Surely, he meant to say that if you go from long tube headers to shorties, you lose 10% of the HP gained by the long tube headers. I.e., If long tube headers added 25 HP to your engine, going to shorties would cost you about 3 HP. At least, I hope that is what he meant.
You wont just lose hp by putting shorty headers on a car, period. The power will just come on at a different rpm. The same rule applies with intake manifolds, If you change the runner length it changes where the power comes on.
I argued this already Header length changes the rpm in which the powerband comes on. I built one set of headers That were"tuned" for that car's rpm range. It was a 7 second rail car. By munipulating the length of the primary tubes(some effect) and changing the lenth of the collector(much more effect) you can do that. You must have everything sorted out. Proper A/F, Desired RPM (via gears/tire selection/engine capibilty)On a street car you won' t have to worry as long as the headers are within 4-6 of being "tuned" as it doesn't really do a hole lot, unless it us a full blown race motor, until after you get 7k plus
Yeah, but he said it better.:evilsmile Plus, he's more involved with headers while you're just a lowly ASE certified master technician. What do you know about engines and horsepower and stuff.rofl2: I'm sorry. I tried to resist, but it's the Frank's Friend influenzia, er, uh, I mean influence.
