Welcome to our site... I will take your side on the chevy engine, if for no other reason than I believe you can get more HP out of it for less money. There seems to be so much more for the 350 than you can find for the 302 for less cash. I may be wrong, but when I open my JEGS and Summit, everything in there fits the SBC, and it is much harder to find SBF stuff. Let us know how difficult it is to put in, and how well it fits between the shock towers...
Yes MissMaverick, very nice up there eeh!! I call it "Gods Country" only because thats has close as I have come to it!! Scooper,:Handshake yes parts are easier to come by for the 350.I too have opened up my summit mag and realized the same thing. As far as the fit. I've had to fabricate motor mounts. But at this point my problem lies with the front sump on the 302, it's in the front. the 350 has it in the rear of the oil pan. That is this weekends project. i'm thinking of spitting 2 oil pans to make one, and re-posiotioning or some how making the 350 oil pan fit. no doubt about it, it's gonna be snug , But I believe one way or another she'll go Sure is nice to have an alliance on this though. I have some nasty PM's the last few days. You wanna know what my plan is? I am gonna hook on a trailer hitch and tow my pop-up down to Indiana on sept. 7-9 for the mini meet in Ft. Wayne.
Just because it isn't in the catalog, doesn't mean they dont carry it. Personally, I wouldn't take the "cheap" way out on any car that I build.
Mavaholic, there is really nothing that is cheap these days. The title for my car cleary says 1971 Mercury Comet! With that said I own a Ford. The car has a 3:73 "ford" 9" rear end. The car has ford mustang front end suspension. The only thing that is gonna seperate this car from most anyone elses car on this forum is the fact that it is gonna have 350 small block and 350 turbo trans. With that said, no one would have none this if for the simple fact that I would not have said anything about it. I could have just as well left the hood closed and said nothing. But instead I chose to share with everybody my car. I've had this car for 9 maybe 10 years now. I am proud of what i've to it With next to no help. I've welded on it, painted it twice, gone through 2 302s', 1 trans,2 windshields,1 rear quarter "due to a fender bender" and one relationship. This car has cost me alot. I am not putting the 350 chevy in it because it's "cheap" The parts for a 350 are readily available, and it is something that not many people are willing to due to there maverick/comet. For what I have in this car, I could have put together 2 complete mustangs or 3 chevy camaros. Alot of people would have given up by now. I am sating this because someone from this forum sent me a private messege stating that me and my car will not be welcome to any maverick/comet mini meet or ford show. Now I knew some folks would take exception to my project, but without knowing all the facts about the car it's a little unfair to be judged! I respect the fact that Mavaholic is a supporting member, and I respect what is has done for the maverick/comet community. That is why I joined I wanted me and my car to be part of something. But I resent the fact that i'm doing this on the "cheap". I joined knowing full well I was gonna take some lumps but for more humor reasons, and thats cool, I have a sense of humor. i was planning on that Fort Wayne mini-meet to meet some of you. But after I got home from work and rea the private messeges maybe it was a mistake to join the forum. I know I probably would not be accepted in the MCCI, I didn't think that some of would not accept the car in this forum. well anyway sorry to have upset anyone. That was not my intention!
