Thanks for all the complements at this point I'm just happy that I'm able to match my vision for this car. The grill is custom made by me using Mike Desmonds drawing for inspiration. As for EFI I left the door open to add it later if I want. Tammy's car runs so good with just a carb and the buy in so high for the EFI this swayed me to stay with the carb for now. Now if you send me the money I will add it now $2600 for the Mass flow system versus $350 for a carb. The engine is a street boss 302 (aussi heads, boss pistons, 4340 5.155" rods, 4340 crank)
I thought I had some cool ideas, I was wrong. I like custom. You are the MAN. I need to pick your mind for some ideas for me. I love it like it is & can't wait to see it later.
Thomas, your car is simply stunning. I would love to see it in person! I'd still like to get together with you and chat/see how you modified that 8.8 rear into your other mav, as I wouldn't mind doing it with mine. the efi can actually be done for practically free. ALL it would require is a fox body parts car, rob the efi stuff and mass air, then sell the rest of the parts for cash, and that will more than pay for your efi. I'm still thinking about doing it to mine, but the complexity vs a carb leads me to save that for a future project too.
The reason I want to use the Mass Flow system is becuase I want the hood scoop functional. The Mass Flow is similar to the stock ford system except its throttle body and mass air meter set ontop of the manifold like a carb. This makes it very easy to work the scoop. I would also have to drill and weld up my intake or get the track boss intake and do the same. It is also a plug and play unlike most of the other speed density types. The other reason is the 2v 351C heads have oval ports and I can't see using square port intake and adapters on them. The last reason.....I have been working on this car for four years and I want to drive it bad!!! My options are to put EFI and wait another 8-10 months or put a carb and drive it in 1-2. The reason for the time difference is I pay cash for everything so I would have to save to get the EFI.
haven't heard of the "mass flow" system till now, thought it was just slang for mass air. I don't blame you, I have been waiting 15 years to drive this car, and I just don't want to spend the extra time right now to convert to efi. We're in the same boat.
no more flaking this time!!! that's the big target date, 100% for sure. I've never shown any of my cars yet at knotts, and i'm excited about unveiling it there. I fear my suspension won't be done yet by then, but that won't effect me being able to go. count me in!
I'm planing on having the car running for route 66 in September, I won't have the interior done. By the time Knott's happens the car should be done. This will give me plenty of time to work all the bugs out for either the west cost round up or the super round up in july Maybe I will e-mail you..........:evilsmile
Very nice car indeed! Love the color and the custom mods. Gives me something to daydream about here at work. Keep us posted!
i'd sure like to go to the knotts show but i won't have the sprint done by then. may come anyway without a car if i don't have a race that weekend. it always seems like i have a race every weekend there's something going on. that's why i was glad tucson got finished early this year. it's giving me a chance to go back to owensboro.
Contact the Ford Motor Company with pictures and tell them you've got a new model Maverick you want them to produce. That way we all can have a nice a Maverick as you without waiting 4 years. Tom, I do believe that is the nicest Maverick I've ever seen. Good taste and styling. Hat's off to ya. Ken
Thom, I've been waiting to see that car come together almost as long as you! Looks better than I had imagined. Keep 'em coming.
