I thought the head looked like a BBF, but the single head threw me off. I don't know much about boat engines. Good what is it thread though. :D

Personally I think 4 cylinders are pretty cool. I would love to see more about the 3.7l motor..................off subject, but I have seen a 2.3l Ford Focus rally motor make over 300hp @ around 9,000rpm..............just out of this world.

IIRC, Mercruiser IO 470 was what they "were" called at one time. 3.7L. They weren't very popular. Mostly because of vibration. There is no counter balancer in the engine and the heavy pistons/rods tend to cause second order vibration like no other. They needed a counterbalance shaft. Most people in the boat business either wanted an inline 6 or V6 for under 200 HP applications as the 470 was just too buzzy.

The 460 head fits-and IIRC the pistons can be made to fit but that's about it. Lots of custom work to make it work in a performance application. But they run well. I remember seeing an article at one time showing one with a turbo making, if memory serves me right, around 900 HP.

I did winterize one a few years ago and yes they vibrate. That's about all I know about them. turboford.org-those guys know a little about them. Been a few years since Ive been over there, though.

Thanks Mavman i know he was saying something about the vibration issues with these engines and said the crank weighs about as much as the block haha.
He definately has a real good engine builder working on it
so hopefully everything works out well.Heres a mock up pic.
