I went with a 1" spacer up front on my 66 mustang with my bullitt wheels. I found a good company on ebay that sold me the bolt on spacers for like $40 - 60 or so..good pieces.

the rears clear fine with no spacers...they're just sunk in slightly.

I know these are pictures of a mustang (got it for free, like it??)

but the mav is gonna get the identical treatment. All I need now are some center caps

no engine installed in this shot, that's why it sits so high. It's got a 5.0 crate motor now and a t5 5 speed which hopefully will get finished very soon.

I'm pretty old school, but I like the look of the larger wheel on the Mav. I dont like the super low profile tires (30 series) that make the wheels look like forklift wheels, but I like the look of larger wheels. Unless you're a stickler on factory appearance, larger wheels take a beautiful, classic car and "update" it a bit. You'll get a lot of attention from the younger enthusiasts going with larger wheels and that will benefit the classic car market overall. After all, they're trying to crush all our cars and make everyone buy Hondas. So every old cutlass that I see on 24s just makes me smile because that 18 year old kid is one more guy that would join the legislative fight to keep these cars on the road.

Sorry, meant to give you my 2 cents but that was more like a quarter.

    :)

it's actually a safety issue so to speak too. the old brakes on these cars are wortheless. with the classic stangs, there is an aftermarket kit to bolt on the 13" cobra brakes from the sn95 cars. This is ideal, and will make the car stop on a dime. You need the 17x8 wheels to clear the 13" brakes. since a brake upgrade is in my future, these 17's are necessary

    Jeremy,

You just need disc brakes and you'll be able to stop. I drove with the front drum brakes for a year, they are a safety issue...stay away from puddles. 13" would be nice but not necessary.

oh, I remember puddles from back in the mav days. LOL

for now, I'll search for junkyard stuff, etc.

I've got a granada setup available to me for $200...but i'm in no rush.

I agree 100% Jeremy, aftermarket brakes are essential. Alot of people are into making them go fast, but neglect stopping them fast!

I'd have to say 15's all around with slightly wider and taller rear tires.

even using the " old school" discs that started appearing on 68 cougars from the factory is night and day for stopping and corner braking compared to the factory drums.I took the grabbers off a 74 4 door and run them manual (no vac assist). i run the 14 inch mag 500 style rims and only had to shave off some of the casting material from the caliper to make them clear all the way. 15 would be plenty of space and leave you some road absorption. but then these are cars not trucks so im sure the 17 still has more cush than a 22 on a blazer. i always liked the way jamie miles's rims looked and may get those eventually for the comet.

i like to run same rize of rims of both front and rear but i like the wheels in the back wider than the front, staggered wheels.
