go with 17" wheels... 7" wide in the front and 8" wide in the rear backspacing is 4.5" looks awsome. my son bought coys wheels a knock off of torque thrust alot cheaper and look great.

hotrodbob - wow, thanks for the link. that story is pretty unsettling, i went a checked my tires afterwards. 9 years old. dang, i guess i didnt get as good of a deal as i thought. it seems kinda wicked that the tire companies and retailers know about all this yet dont do anything about it.
I suggest everyone who sees this post watch the video that hotrodbob linked to.

guess that shoots my idea of throwing the 30 year old tires on for a burnout or 2

They will burnout just great. A guy here at a show did a burnout contest with old tires like that ans man did they ever smoke. Then one let go. He lost the rear qtr, glass and trunk. Lucky it wasn't a mav or it would have exploded

235-60s up front now.. Car tracks to the left but that's probably either cuz the tires are diff. brands or just that the front end is old lol

I like 17s and bigger because you can fit big brakes under them.. also the size of the wheel depends on the style. There are plenty of ugly 17's 18's and then there are some nice ones.

i personally like 15 inch wheels 15X8 rear with as much tire possibl ein the rear without sticking out with a 15x4 in the front .that sjust what i like .i did have a 73 once that had the 17 inch cragers all the way around that did look good from the side but going down the road from the rear they didnt seem to fill in right if that makes any sense.

I use 16X7 torque thrust II's front and rear with 245/50R16 all around. I have found that tires that size are relatively few and only one that is bigger for the rear. 255/50R16 and a little expensive. I bought them 10 years ago when 16's were cheaper but if I had it to do over again, I would definitely have at least a 17" wheel in the front, mainly for brake clearance and tire choices. The front never scrubs and the rear could be a little bigger and more offset to the outside for appearance. I might go with a 17X9 in the rear and leave the 16's in the front to get the look I want but I am limited to the 12" brakes in the front. I really would like to go with 13's in the front

wow, that tire story is scary as hell. I worked for Ford during the Firestone tire recalls and that is a sharp reminder of the safety issues that people should really pay attention to.

since this thread is now hopping again....
If you want the classic look I'd go with 15's all around with rear being wider then front, I love the look of weld prostar (and I ended up buying em...)
If you want more modern look i'd say go 17's in front with 18s in rear, rear also being wider then front....
you can check out my gallery to see prostars.... if you want
