There is an easier way to do it with a crank socket instead of turning the flywheel. We have decided to just weld up a ford socket. Look up in Jeg's to see the SBC ones with the degree wheel attachment. There are Chrysler ones too. Just a discussion we are having in our family since we have multiple makes of vehicle(no Chevys though).

Thank you!!! That is the one. We thought that we had found that before, but couldn't remember what brand, etc. When I asked Jeg's(after they sent me the wrong one), they acted like I was a dumb girl. So, I will be placing an order with Summit this afternoon.

Glad I could help. I just might have to add that to my next Summit Order.
And don't take the Jeg's thing to personal it was probably some lazy, dumb guy on the other end!

Back in the day I was doing a performance build on a 6 cylinder and I wasn't sure how to degree the cam so I just lined up the marks and called it good. It really sounded mean and seemed to run pretty good, but when I took it out to the drags the car ran the same et's as before the buildup. I thought...WHAT THE?? I took it to a shop and had them degree the cam with the motor in the car. It ended up being something like 12 deg retarded. I had them set it 4 deg advanced and HOLY S**T...excuse my French, but it made a world of difference at the track. Always degree your cam...just my .02 (y)
