purchased the steering shaft parts today. 17mm to 3/4" dd u joint 3/4" dd to 1" dd double type u joint 3/4 dd shaft support 3/4 dd shaft i removed and modified my steering colum today. took pictures to documment. I am so glad to have access to a lathe and a milling machine i cut the end off the shaft with the rag joint installed fabricated a solid end plug, and welded it on the shaft. next i turned down the end of the shaft to 1" od. finally milled the D portion of the shaft. I purchased a 1" I.D. bearing from tsc and going to fabricate a cup to weld onto the end of the column tube to support the bottom end of the shaft.
Do u plan to post the pixtures for all to see? Ever time I have tried ur link I get 404 error "page not found". I've been trying it many times in the past. Just thought I'd mention it...
When you cut the rag joint coupler off, did you try inserting the dd shaft in the tube? It fits right in. I compressed the shift tube so it'll clear, but it sounds like we're doing the same thing. I'm planning on using a 3/4 rcr bearing to support the dd shaft, I just need to get the retainer made...and I have a line on someone that'll do it for me, I just have to get over there.
i actually machined a plug for my 1" dia tube so i can machine a dd on the end. but you could just put a 3/4 dd in the end of the tube and weld it in if you wanted. i found a good deal on the bay for my double u joint so i went with the 1" i am machining the bearing collar retainer tomorrow and will take pictures and make drawings in solidworks. my website is down right now but will be putting one up soon wiht all this documented on my www.energytreecng.com website.
ill varify the m12, i checked the threads with a tap and the 7/16 worked but thanks ill check that out
If you buy the Moog kit K6677 it has the bolts in there plus the bushings that I used in my conversion. I need to get shorter bolts to work with my set up. so I ordered some 12mmx1.25mmx55mm. They should be in this week and then I will know for sure.
cut off rag joint, drilled plug weld holes around end, machined down a plug to fill in and extend the end of the shaft. parimiter welded the end and plug welded. then machined it down to diameter. milled the dd into the end of the shaft.
