Good fix. Is that rusty mess on the top of the rad your coolant???
If so thats going to be really tough to get clean. Lots of flushing in your future.

Flushed that engine twice and it's still rusty colored. As long as it cools I don't care. Hope this holds.

I hear ya. Its really tough to get rid of it once its rusty. Just back flush it best you can and make sure you have good anti freeze in it. The additives in the glycol are important. You'll never get it clean but as long as its not corrosive anymore thats the best you can do.

Looks great to me! And in all likelihood a permanent fix. Well done!

Mine did that awhile back and when I took it to the shop I was told to use a 7lb cap. This man is very knowledgeable and said you do not need a high pressure cap. My car has no problem with running hot here in Florida,in the summer, with factory air on. I haven`t had a radiator problem since. He told me the high pressure cap makes the tank swell and contract with heating and cooling, which causes the seams to split.

Makes sense. I also thought I read somewhere that our radiators full leval is actualy about 1" down from the top. If you add a resivour then it (the radiator) will/should be full to the top when checking.
    :sarcasticclap:
I been waiting to do that! :D

Usually a tank seam flexes too much to hold a plain solder repair. I use a piece of brass, folded over to fit tight in the area of the split and then solder the brass piece over the split. That holds well.

Well I drove it 15 miles to work this morning, Frosty crystals on my windshield. My heat kicked in HOT about 3 minutes after starting as usual and there was no steam or drips the whole way. I placed a cardboard under the nose to see if it was leaking and there were no drips all day. After work I drove to Autozone for a better fitting lower hose, remember the new tanks hose tube is narrower than my original, and there were no drips. Overall I drove about 35 miles today with no issues at all. I am pleased with this repair so far. If it was going to do something it would have during the first 10 miles I'd suspect and a drip would have happened.
