Don't forget to consider tire size. As an example, a 3.80 gear with a 27" tire will actually turn the same RPM as a 3.55 gear with a 25" tire. You can use a RPM calculator ... there all over the web. Automatics will turn a couple to few hundred more RPM due to converter slip. That is, unless your running an AOD/AODE with a lockup converter. I ran a 3.73 rear in a '79 stang for years behind a 4 speed 2BBL 302 and commuted about 150 miles round trip to work with no sweat. I can't remember what size tire I was running though I wouldn't hesitate to go 3.80 for a weekend warrior if you plan to put some "meat" on the back.
I was just making the point that tire size should be considered when selecting gear ratio. You'd be surprised Some examples: 185 70 14 = 24.2" (I think this is approximately OEM size) 195 70 14 = 24.7" 215 70 14 = 25.9" 215 60 15 = 25.2" 255 60 15 = 27" 275 60 15 = 28" (About as big as will fit)
thanks for the info, just confirms more that ill get the 3.55 and itll be good for what i want thanks for everything guys your awesome!
