Dim Taillights Hello Drew; I just wanted to mention that I increased the brightness of the Maverick taillights by first cleaning the outside AND inside of the lenses with a plastic polish and a wheel which did wonders for the visibility and also I cleaned the interior of the taillight housing with steel wool and after removing all the sediment I painted the entire inside area with WHITE flat paint (three light coats) which reflects better than silver paint, then when I installed the lights I used the Hi Intensity bulbs that are available from any auto store and ran these through a "relay". This helped immensely and really brightened things up. Hope this helps if you haven't already done this . Cometized
I did most of what you mentioned, including the relays. Didn't try the different bulbs though, and I used silver paint... It helped, but in bright sunlight the lights were still not visible enough. Wife was following me one day and said my brake lights were "barely working." S'alright though, I'm really pretty fond of the Caprice lights.
I've never really liked the valance mounted backup lights. Don't even like them on the Cougars and Mustangs. My idea for the backup lights is to cut the red reflectors out of the lens, and super glue some clear reflectors in. Then modify the bulb housing to put a couple of W5W bulbs or maybe LED's behind each one. I've been meaning to mess around with this, but my car is a daily beater and I just haven't got around to it..
Putting in new taillights seem like so muchwork, but make a great difference in the car. The shelby one's are my favorite.

is it any more difficult to mount the comet tail lights upside down rather than right side up if you are switching from stock maverick tail lights?
Back up Lights Hi Jamie: Regarding your back up lights inset into the existing taillight structure, it sounds like a great plan . I'm looking forward to seeing how you accomplish this . Please send us some pictures when you finish and if possible parts numbers . Thanks Cometized
