Hi all. Hope I am doing this reply right. Not used to this site yet. Tim, definitely stay with that 250. Those sixes are just as much fun to drive, are pretty good on fuel, and will pass someone if you need to. Not rockets, but good solid engines. If taken care of once you have it rebuilt, it will last you for years. I have never had to replace any sixes. Did have to update the head on my present Maverick to accomodate unleaded gas. That price is way out of line. Where I live in the central valley of California, long blocks (head on and pan on) are running about $1000.00 That is what it costs here approximately to get a six rebuilt at the machine shop near me. I have heard that too, that some rebuilt engines (even ones bought from parts stores) don't necessarily have all new pistons. If the clearance is correct, supposedly some existing pistons are left in. Not good balancing practice, but obviously, it does happen. I am sure you could ask for all new pistons, and pay more. I wish they would come up with a "fuel injection" setup for the 250 sixes. That would get rid of those old primative carburetors. All have a great day. Jack.
