You say it's a roller pump, but that can mean it can be either direction. The 87-91 Vic/Towncar/Marquis 5.0's were all roller cammed but with a std rotation water pump. The Stangs, pickups and vans had the reverse rotation pumps.
Hmm ok more reason to run the numbers. Another weird question. If it is reverse rotation can I just flip my flex fan around? Should the fan pish air towards the radiator or draw it through.
you cant turn the fan around. it needs to draw air through the front of the radiator into the fan. i dont think their are numbers on the timing cover. you have to look at the impeller shape in the water pump and you can look at the angle of the water inlet ports of the timing cover .
Ah ok so I need to add a fan to my list. Motor was from a 90 fox body so Im almost certain its a reverse but I will check to make sure. Thanks for the pic.
There are casting numbers on the timing cover. If the motor's from a Stang, it's got a reverse pump on it. However, there is some question as to what timing cover is on it. I've been under the impression that beginning in 86, Ford matched the reverse pump with a reverse cover, but have run across those who say otherwise. I know the pickups and vans had the reverse cover and pretty sure the Stangs did too, but I'm not now 100% sure on the Stangs. If the cover has a fuel pump mount, then it is definitely a std rotation cover. The Stangs have had a reverse pump on the std cover since 1979, but as I said, there's some question as to what was done in regards to the cover in 1986
Neither of my '87 5.0 Birds or the '86 LSC Lincoln had the reverse cover but pumps are reverse... Belt wrap is same as Stang...
