As a French teacher, it is my semi-professional opinion that using online translation programs to tranlate all but a word or two at a time is a near waste of time. This devices work well at telling you what a word means on it's own, but they choke up when dealing with the same words in a complex sentence. The grammar does them in. This explains why passages translated in this manner seem to make very little sense.
As to the claim that Shelby had "nothing to do with them", I maintain that if Shelby cashed the cheque for permitting the use of his name by Shelby de Mexico, then it's his offspring. I agree that these cars would be many times more interesting if they'd been built in the same plant as the Shelby Mustangs, and had been developed by ol' Shel and his team, instead of being a collection of bolt-on/screw-on aftermarket pieces.
Nevertheless, they did merit the attention of Ford long enough to warrant a trip down to Mexico by a half dozen of their engineers to consider the feasibility of Ford producing these cars. I got this little tidbit when sharing a table at a wedding with one of the engineers on that team who'd retired many years earlier from Ford (he told this story BEFORE the booze started flowing). As he told it, when they got there, some car magazine jockey had blown the engine on the one "mule" they had available at the time. While they looked the car over, they obviously weren't able to drive it. Whether the story would have had a different ending, had the engine not been blown, we'll never know, but that folks, is the rest of the story! John B
