Very impressive, Tony. Keep up the good work. By the way.....with your cubic inches and utilizing .63 A/R T3 turbos you won't need the nitrous to spool them. They will likely spool at 2000 rpm.
Thanks! I'm hoping that I won't need it. I'm not even going to put it in until I've got the tune on it...and only then if I feel it needs it. I've got a goal of 600 rwhp. I had a sandrail years ago that had a Pinto/Mustang motor with the draw through setup on it. I had to use the nitrous to get it to spool as it had no low end, it was a kick out at the dunes...but that was 15 years ago. By todays standards, it wouldn't be impressive at all out there. I should post some more recent pictures of the Maverick. It's almost done now, just waiting for some small parts to finish it up.
Hey Don! Somehow I missed you at the banquet last weekend. They did announce your name though...but you weren't around. I was late getting there myself, so I missed the best parts of it. But we cleaned up on the raffle prizes! Tony, his wife, and my son all took away prizes! Anyhow to answer your question, we will be out there this Friday and then again on the 16th and 17th. We just got back this weekend from the Parker 400 where our car completed 24 miles of the 400...and that was after our pit crew replaced the blown up motor, then replaced the replacement motor! Two engine swaps in 3 hours...go figure!
Tony, We were at the Pro time trials, but left before the banquet. I'm going to Tucson for their first team race on the 16th and then to Firebird on the 17th, for their first team race. I've been to the Parker 400 before. That is a real carnival. Sounds like you guys had your hands full. See you there.
The latest progress... Here is the latest picture of the car. You'll notice that the towers are both moved out for clearance for the headers I made for the twin turbos. You can also see in the foreground my -10 fuel and return lines. Looks like garden hose, doesn't it?!? Also note the dual intercoolers in front of the radiator. And the smog pump you see at the top of the motor is actually a unit made by Ford for crankcase evacuation. I'm still working on triangulating the brackets I made for the alternator and evac. The strut tower braces were made by me. What you can't see is the heim joint strut rods and roller spring perches. I also made some straps for limiting the front end travel. The latest part that I'm working on is the transmission and crossmember. I picked up one of Franks crossmembers for the AOD in an unwelded condition and I've modified it to fit the Liberty shifted toploader that I purchased from Eric (hoping it will all fit under my new carbon fiber grabber hood!). (THANKS GUYS!) Anyhow, while writing this I've thought about 100 other things that I need to do to complete this multi-year project...will it ever end???
Hi Jeremy, Nope, still working...nothing really new, worked the fuel system and working on the a/w intercooler right now. It's cooling off finally here in AZ so work will start here pretty quickly. I'll let you know as it progresses. And thanks for the compliments!
With your solid strut rods there's no rubber bushings or vertical movement, what absorbs the force of impact if you hit a pot hole or a curb?
