Where do Floridians go for vacation in January ... NW Ohio of course ... It was my father-in-law's 75th birthday and we went up there last Friday and left Tuesday morning ... just ahead of the snow ... came back home to a very light work-week, too. ... I love it when a plan comes together. There was a time 5 years ago that Lil and I could not travel anywhere without natural disaster following us ... the huge power blackout during summer ... we were right on the west edge of it ... Indy drags rained out for the first time ever ... yup, we were there watching it rain ... another road trip generated a tropical storm ... Maybe we are past that jinx now ... Went ice fishing on Monday. As they were drilling 4 inch holes in the ice, I found myself saying, "Do the fish actually fit through that tiny hole?" (I am used to fishing in the Gulf of Mexico ... we catch bait that small ... ) It had warmed up that day to a balmy 28 ... It was +4 two days earlier ... hadn't been that cold since growing up in Chicago. My father-in-law said it took 2 hours to snow blow his driveway ... you all have my sympathy there.
sounds like Washington! all it takes is a dusting and people panic like the worlds gonna end. they go and stock up on food and drive too fast!
I do appreciate the offer, but that may not be so easy to do. To be perfectly honest, I really don't know exactly where his property is located. From what he told me, the farm is somewhere along the Kentucky/W. Virginia border and a major interstate runs near by. I'm guessing that would be Rt 23. Finding the farm would be difficult as well because he said it's pretty secluded and the dirt road leading into the place was so overgrown that it had to hacked out just to get back there. My two nephews know he's there and I'm sure they would check in on him if things got dicey. My brother is a tough old bird; retired military man and most likely armed to the teeth. The only reason he's clearing the place in the winter is because he hates copperheads and the place is crawling with them. There won't be any snakes moving around if the ground is covered with ice.
