KO , oops...Ok, whose I mean who's the wise guy that spelt uh spelled SCHOCKS for me in my last reply?? I no (!!$#@) know I can spell. SHOCKS , see I told you.
MM, I guess you are talking about the spring helpers that go on the back/bottom of the springs:confused: if so, I did that .... $35 from our local parts house and works great ...... that is until I replace the springs eventually$$$$$$ ....... PS .....it is fun to look on the box and see the 70's era station wagon pulling a camper ad........Robert
The problem with air shocks and those springs that go around the shocks, is you are now using your upper shock mount to help support body weight which it was never intended to do. I have seen more than 1 ripped out mount from cars I have junked over the years.
What do so many people have against NEW SPRINGS?? It's the RIGHT way to do it and it's really not very expensive...
k, again, take 2 helium balloons. Fill them with air, attach 4 tow straps. then with J-hooks hook them to the rear wheelhouse on the top side. In coordination, drive the car, with the helium balloons down the road, should be worth a couple inches. Or a person could use a an air balloon with a pilot and have dead set precison like the Blue Angels. I imagine a government grant could be applied for at this stage. What the ^#@& am I doing on here, gonna go try it now! cya Dan
I've had the load control springs on my car for over 18 years now and haven't had any problems. And I don't see any sign of a problem under there. I suppose that if you compressed the springs when you install them, making the shocks max out, it could be asking for trouble.
my experience, I had air shocks on my mav for over 25 years, no problem, ever. One time I thought I broke a shock bracket, was just a bad shock. Dan
thats alright.. stay in the 70's! i'm planing for the year 2020. working on my hybrid maverick as i wright this Air Shocks! your killing me i know you can get a nice set of meats under a maverick with out the "jacked up look".. if you run 16x10's don't you think they will stick out a big to far? IMO you can get a car to run 9 secs with a 8inch wide tire. now if you not draging it... and as for cornering i think the car would handle much better if it didn't have air shocks on it. then again thats just me. good luck on your ventures
When I got my car done I had the problem of everytime I hit a bump in the road I would rub the tires, couldn't have that so I pulled the springs and took them to the spring shop and had them rearch and add a leaf, and I haven't had a problem since, they told me it would only lift it about a 1/2" to 3/4" but it ended up going almost a 1 1/2". I took it back to them and they said it would settle out after running it for awhile. Well 8 years later it has only dropped about a 1/4" Now I have a huge gap in the wheel wells because of the short tires. Oh well it worked out alright I guess.
Neal, your car looks great, but maybe a bit too much gap in the back. You may have mentioned before, but what size tires do you run back there?
