Scott, ...may want to get someone to look at it..."that knows something about cars". :sorry: ...Simons' friend Frank...
OK, so now that everyone has it out of their system...picking on me about my weak engine and lack of mechanix skills... Subframes now or no? Please explain your answer in 450 words or less...
Asked and answered. If you think it is bent then have it checked by a frame shop. Body bushings are located between the subframes and the body.
Arn't these cars unibody? As in body and frame one piece. Here are some pics of my connectors. Not the best pics it was dark in the shop last night.
Scott,,, get the car on a frame alignment machine. To put sf connectors on before is just not right. Dan
This was taken June '04 after my 1st time at the track (open rear, 2.79, 14" rims, 175 or 195 wide). If anything, it is leaning to the right. This is May 2005... I know I have not been in any collision. I have air shocks on at this time, but also home-made shackles, and one was drilled in effort to even out the lean, and regardless, it still leans to the left. THAT is the reason why I thought my enormous power launches were causing the lean. I may have put 500 miles on it during this time, nothing else. Seriously, though. This thing sits in the garage for all but maybe an hour or five per month. I cannot figure out where the lean came from other than driving it hard (forget about "power launches", just driving it hard) Any other suggestions for why it is leaning after one year? Even after swapping all springs, leaf springs, putting stock shackles on, all new rubber, new tires, everything, it still had a 3/4"-1" lean to the left until I put a 1" drop block on one side.
Swap both front and rear springs from left to right (and right to left). By the way, have you tried regular rear shocks?....
Let me rephrase that...I HAD air shocks at THAT time (when that picture was taken). I now have new stock replacement Monroe shocks, and I have swapped the front and rear springs and shackles to see if it fixes the lean (surprisingly, no difference in the lean). I have new springs on the front and rear (4-leaf from JC Whitney), new shackles and bushings. I have tried everything to fix the lean, and the only thing that worked was the 1" drop block on the passenger side to make it drop down even with the driver side "droop". THAT is why I think the frame (or more precisely, the floorboard) has twisted a bit. And since I have had no collisions, the only thing(s) that could be twisting it is hard driving and/or multiple instances of jacking the car up on a jack or jack stands.
Back in the 70's I owned several 63-64 chevy's. I was amazed at the difference in rear ride height like Scott is experiencing. Those cars certainly have a different rear suspension than our cars,, but I never figured it out. And to this day I can walk up to Chevy's of that era and see difference in right to left ride height, and also up to 2" difference in wheelwell offset,, Nova's and Camaro's are good at this too, sorry to bring up the chevy factor, but this crap exists in other makes too.
