i'd have to agree with craig about the alcohol. not a reason i'd go, but could be a reason to keep me from coming back. i don't drink or smoke so i'd be going to meet the others from this board. activities are what is going to make the meet enjoyable for everyone. i have no problem holding it in conjunction with something else. if it's a car show that should be only a part of the whole. i would not be interested in driving a long ways for a 1 day show then it's over. needs to be 2 or 3 days, with multiple activities.
I'm surprised too. Just went back and counted all westerners responding to this thread, 11, and of that 11 I would say 7 could be called a yes, with one strong maybe. Drag strip seems to be a yes for the majority. Looks like it's pretty obvious westerners don't make much or any prescence at the roundup out east either, so I'm surprised the response here is so apathetic. I think it's a great idea. My family is the wife that I started seeing when she asked for a ride on my motorcycle(and she hasn't said slow down yet) and two teenage boys, my family LIKES racing. And like I said before, the areas we're talking about are AWESOME tourist areas, you can't look out a window and not see something to do. Corbin, anything to report on all those N. CAl guys? MavMike, Eureka? I'm a definite yes if we get a plan together way in advance. Shight, i'd split a strip with 5 guys as long as I could commit way in advance. But I'd rather it was 50.
Remember that not all in the West are on the board so the enthuiasm may be more than you are seeing. If you actually get something in motion and get the word out, the reaction may be better than you see right now. I have to agree with Craig, again, on the 'family' thing. I see what the inclusion of alcohol does to the image of other events and it's not a good thing. Not to say that I see anything wrong with a beer or two, but actively including it in an event does not give the right appearance that likely any of us want to send out. At our emergency vehicle events nationwide, we have an actual ban on alcohol on the showfield that is publicized. We want to send out a message that gasoline and alcohol don't mix. Just like the sight of classic police cars and fire trucks with alcohol around doesn't send the right message, MCCI has always had a wholesome image and it should stay that way. My 2.75 cents....
What's all the alcohol comments about? I didn't see anyone talking about throwing a toga party. And most people who are serious enough about cars to get one on a race track, already know alcohol and racetracks don't go together. I just want to see who wants to go and what they want to do. We're only at the "count me in" stage, and that's really all we need to be talking about. Then, all the "count me in's" can decide how their meet should go, imo. I'm a go with the flow kind of guy on get together's like this, everyone doesn't, and won't, get their way. And inevitibly there are people who figure anyone who doesn't want to do what they want is an idiot. But those people end up just getting ignored and the fun goes on anyway. I would go even if a drag strip wasn't even a part of it, but I want to hear from people who would actually commit to being there.
Nothing to do with you. I just picked this opportunity to speak out since we were on the subject of Round-Ups and Mini-Meets.
Nevada is too far for me as things are right now. Might change by next year, but probably not. I'm definately more into racing than shows and if I were considering a long trip like that, not having any racing available would definately be a dealbreaker. On a somewhat related topic, I think there are going to be seven or eight Mavericks and Comets at Pacific Raceways in Kent this Friday. Mini meet?
There's a time for drinkin and then there is not. I can say having attended my first round up this year. There was ample oppurtunity for everybody to do what they like. Be it drinking, racing, showing the car, catching some local hot spots etc.... I will be honest and say I was expecting to go and hate it. I ended up loving it. Thanks to the hard work of of John Ford, Shawn Simpson, Dan Starnes, Craig Selvey and the rest of the MCCI members. Something for everybody. If you guys can't get it together by next year stop out at the 06 roundup to just get a feel for it and then get booking for the first ever "West Side Round Up"
me personally...I think you beating a dead horse There was only one person I saw that "broke" your rule this year....and I put a stop to it as soon as I saw it happening Geez Craig, give it a break! and thats me getting something off my chest
I opolgize!!! Of all people it was me having a major brain fart. I like a good cold beer on a hot day and when the hotel doesn't mind if you're carrying it around.... well I just walked out of the hotel and onto the show field and was quickly reminded and headed straight off the field. I opoligize to anyone that witnessed this because I know that I was in the wrong and that is not the image that I wanted to portray about the club. I promise to do better in the future .
