Yeah, I'd like to time it so they're not on the same weekend...maybe a month apart. I need to PM John Ford for planning ideas and tips. It looks like our main roadblock right now is location. Once that's established it's a matter of getting our ducks in a row. Maverikrick (Rick) has sent out PMs to most of the western folks on the board and it's still a little unclear as to where to hold this. The front runners are Sacramento and Reno (Eureka may be too small), so I think I'll post a poll in the Club Meets section, let it run a couple of weeks and then we'll decide. How does that sound?
The 24th is when I will be there.....actual events (things to do) will not start until Wednesday or Thursday.
I can't read through 7 pages right now, but I know that there seems to be interest in northern cali, for now. I, for one would love to see something happen closer to so cal. Hell, even arizona would be closer. Eureka is 700 miles from me one way, and I haven't driven my maverick 700 miles in 15 years. I can have my maverick ready by summer 06, easily. How possible is it that we have a meet a little closer? I know there are a bunch of so cal maverick guys from this board, and some from arizona too.
I'm all for N. Cal or Reno...It's about a 700 mile trip one way for me to get that far. I need to know the date by January (put in for vacation). My vacation runs from Sunday to Sunday...Keep me posted...
well if it is in reno/sacramento it'll be a great spot for me -i have family in sacramento that i havent visited in along time -just have to hurry up and finish the mav -so it can survive the 580 mile trip
Sorry, work and family snatched me away for a few days. The poll is up and it's here: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=17863 BTW, for those a long ways from these sites you may want to check out U-haul or Penkse. I for one am looking at a ~1200 mile trip and I'm sure as heck not going to drive a non-A/C Maverick across Utah and Nevada in July! Also, don't worry about the condition of the car. Mine will be primered and in the middle of restoration...but I still want to bring it!
I've been to the Jazz Festival in Sacramento a couple of times. That's around Memorial Day, and the place fills up. I don't know what happens the rest of the year. Sacramento and Sonoma are convenient for me. I could probably make it to Reno or Eureka, but that's the limit of my driving range. I'm still getting used to driving my Mav, and I want to be sure nothing will fall off on the trip. Roz
When is the Ford Fun Show in Vallejo? I'm only about 40 miles from Vallejo, and I'd like to try to make it. Is that a Mustang show, or any Fords? Roz
The show is Sunday, September 11th at the Salono County Fairgrounds across the street from Marine World. Here is a link to their website. To pre-register you need to mail the registration form no later than Septemeber 7th. It is open to any kind of Ford vehicle. I will be there with my 1970 Torino GT.
My 2 cents... I'd love to come, but summer is awfully busy for me, and my schedule is FIXED. I don't know it yet or I'd say it. Also, it's awfully hot here in the summer. Any chance of spring or fall? I would only go if I drove my Maverick, and I'd do it in the heat, but wouldn't prefer it. A dragstrip for me would be a big plus. Also, having it in conjunction with another event, even a small one, would be added interest, and an added knowledge that there'd be something to do, even if the turnout was low.
Top Gun Raceway Fallon, Reno area. C'mon, that place just NEEDS a group of Maverick's running down the track to that song that was playing while he ran that Cowasockie(he, he.)down the road against the jet. I talked to them again, board meeting tonight, going to give their rock bottom price for just us. BUT, a test and tune for them is only like 50 guys, and they would set one up on any date we pick to distribute the cost. They often have like 20 minutes at a time during a test and tune with no one running. Reno, Highway 50 to the Danger Zone! I'd be willing to bring the Yammahammer and have a race against that Cowasockie. Be a shame to go up there without a bike anyway. Show you a GREAT road out of Tahoe. The Need For Curvy Speed, with no cops, because there's no cars.
Ford Lovers meet would be a nice venue for a first time attempt. I am sure they would welcome another Ford club!
