My son used to sell restored seat belt sets on Ebay. He first sprayed them and they were stiff. Then, I told him to go Publix and buy Rit brand dye. My mom used it years ago.

He would then remove the labels, get a big pot that would used for nothing else, and boil them in the dye. Then, he would go to a shoe shop and have the labels resewd on the belts. They were soft and shiny. He got big bucks for them and they went into very expensive restorations. Hope this helps.

I need to turn mine from green to Black. Do you think the Rit would work for that?

Good tip. My buckles are still on, so I think the boiling type die may not work. I don't want to stain the chrome.

    Corbin,

You can still get good results without physically putting buckles in boiling water. Simply bring the water to a boil, then let the water cool enough to put the buckles in it. You can also pry the plastic piece off the buckle if you want. It won't stain chrome.

My son changed from green to black with rit, so I am sure it would work for you.

Good to know! I have the plastic pieces off, so it's just the metal parts left attached. I'll have to give it a try. :thumbs2:
