I see the fender drain plugs on AK, but what about the one on the base of the trunk floor, it's a couple inches square, or is that where the jack bolts?
Non-power Front Disc/Rear Drum conversion: 1. Get spindles, the rotors, calipers, and front brake lines from the donor car. 2. Have the rotors turned, or buy new ones if they are too thin. 3. You may need new outter tie-rod ends for '75-'77 Mavericks/Comets, or whatever year the donor car is. 4. Get new flex-hoses, unless you are certain that the ones on the donor car are in good condition. 5. Get a master cylinder for a NON-power front disc brake Maverick or Comet ('75-'77) (your original master cylinder will work but it's not reccomended. It works fine but since the fliud reservoir is smaller, you will run low on fluid sooner as the pads wear and the fluid is displaced). 6. New brake pads (obviously). The first model year Maverick that offered front disc brakes as an option was the '74, which used the SAME distrubution block for both---not a prop valve. So you can get away without using a prop valve, which will put your brake system at 1974 specs. If you want the updated '75-'77 specs, you can install a prop valve (more work--requires later model brake fittings, or cutting & reflaring your old ones). If you're going to go to all of that trouble, might as well go with an adjustable prop-valve. 7. You will need the short push-rod for the earlier model master cylinders, or else your brake pedal will be waay too high with the disc brake master cylinder. 8. Get new wheel bearing seals. They are cheap. Also, You can use the old wheel bearings from the donor car if they are in good condition, otherwise, new wheel bearings are cheap. 9. new brake calipers are about $15 each (plus a core charge). Caliper rebuild kits are only $2.00 each. We rebuilt my friend's calipers for only $4.00 total. This swap was done on my '73 Maverick back in 1990, and also done on my friend's '73 Maverick just last summer (2004). I may have left out a few minor details, but I believe I've covered all of the major issues regarding this swap. I'd like to see a FAQ on this subject, covering the conversion step-by-step in every detail. I hope this helps.
