well fellow maverick friends let me update you on this cute little 71 grabber from ebay. lets start with the car arrived saturday, and to be honest it is a real good looking car. my wife loves it. the problem is that after about a hour of poking and checking it out i just wasnt happy. now maybee this is my fault. maybee i exspect to much, maybee i take people for thier word. maybee i am to picky. my wife thinks so. but the guys at the shop said they understand. they said it is a great looking car, but they also agree that the seller was misleading and they agree that if you buy something that is said to be one thing and its not then you have the right to be disapointed and thats where i am. the car looks fantastic from 5-10 feet. but up close it shows its flaws. now let me say this, i did not exspect a 15000 car for 5000 dollars. what i espected was a car that had not been restored or should i say attempted to be restored. i didnt care if the paint was to be crap or even if the car ran like crap, but i did exspect the body to be solid and not patched up and i really thought the car should come with a trunk floor. {is that asking to much?}if the car was as clean as the seller said it was then the rest i could care less. i was going to do some things to it and then paint it over the winter. now if you go on ebay look at the pics, also look at a few pics of the 70 chevelle that i am finishing up. now this could be my problem also. i am so use to doing top qaulity work that when someone says you will be real happy with this because it has all original body panels and its really clean, then thats what i am exspecting. so maybee i should lower my standards so i am not disapointed in the future. to the few members on this site who said i should go down and look at the car first, well i have bought over 40 cars off of ebay and i have been stung 2 times now, but i will listen to you guys, and from now on i will make the time to fly down or up and see these cars from now on. its a shame that it has come to this but you just cant take people for thier word anymore. i spent 2 hours in emailes and 2 hours on the phone asking every question you could imagine about the condition of this car and i was flat out lied to. shame on me. to anyone intrested in the car for exactly what i paid let me know. someone will get this car and maybee they will say i am nuts and that i was just to picky, well i know what i want and i wont settle for less. at 5500.00 its a fair price for someone i have seen alot of junk out there for more. again to all of you i thank you for all of your support and help. tim .PS. IM LOOKING AT THAT BLUE ONE ON EBAY HMMMMMMMMMM

    Pictures!! Lets see some pic's!!
This seems to happen quite frequently these days, it's rare to find a nice unmolested Maverick.

Alot of cars you don't have to go look at. The Mavs and Comets you do. Actualy any unibody car in my opinion needs to be looked at. Just my opinion tho...
I WILL have a Chevelle again someday. Once I finish this project I will be on the hunt. Good luck next time, this time and every time.

Check it out on Ebay Dave. Not a bad car but I think I would have been a bit unhappy as well. I remeber the origianl ebay ad. Be nice to find one that doesnt need body and paint.

I saw the Ebay auction, but it didn't show anything he's talking about.

hey dave its tim, if you look at the pictures in the 2nd row of pictures one of the pics shows the bubbles at bottom corner of door, and bubbles at bottom of passenger fender. 4th row of pics there is a pic of battery tray rot. 5th row of pics if you look at inside trunk pic shouldnt there be a lower valley for spare tire to go. this is just flat and has rivets all around the sheet metal. 5th row also shows under the front of hood lip where there are holes through the inner structure. 5th row also shows the bottom of both rear 1/4 panels with the filler and fiberglass repaires. 6th row first pic shows the gas tank with foam spray on top to fill the gap between sheet metal top layer and gas tank. tim

The auction pictures of that car are so poor, it's hard to tell anything. Just by looking at the pictures of the engine bay, with all the over spray, and how ruff the interior doors panels look...that cars had alot of work done to it, which I stated in the first post about that car. As for the spare, it sits on the trunk floor on the right side, there is no indentation.
Your the second person in less than 6 months, that has rushed into buying a Maverick without looking at it in person, and luckly your's isn't as bad as the other one.

I drove 7 hours round trip twice to get mine out of Michigan. Compared to the pics it was night and day. Couldnt see all the dents and touch ups in pics. The seller didnt try to mislead though. Turned out to be a great guy. Couldnt pass the car up with the lack of rust.
If I had bought it site unseen though I would have been disappointed with its condition compared to the pics. Really didnt want to get into body and paint. Happy i did now though. :):):)

I'm confused as well! I have over 4000 feedbacks on ebay and know how it works. If the winning bid was $6800 the backup bidder would have been $6700 how did it get all the way down to $5,000 to you?

because the seller of the vehicle made a second chance offer. when you make a second chace offer you can make it to anyone who was bidding on the car. if you make a second chance offer to the person next in line and they dont respond well then you can make a second chance offer to the 3rd person or 4th person and so on.

Now after seeing your auction pictures.....I would be PISSED!! That car is nowhere near the description as described by the original ebay seller. Foam insulation.....pop rivits....and they can still say "never been restored" with a straight face? I supposed they meant, "Never restored.....correctly." It could still be a very nice, rare car, it would just need some work to get there. I understand your frustration.

thank you. again its a great looking and driving car. it truly does turn heads where ever you go. but it is not what was described. it was flat out grossly lied about. you know now when i look at it, the title is a open south carolina title in someone elses name its not in the sellers name. i now believe it was the seller that did all of the work and paint to the car and passed it off as he bought it that way. it will make someone a great car to drive as is and restore some day. i want a car that is already mostly done and i can play with the drive train and small things. i just dont have time to strip a car and restore it with all of the cars that i restore everyday. tim
