It is just a shame that this happens. E-Bay wont do anything either. A personal friend got stuck with a piece of junk ,falcon soft top the same way. Description said no holes in body, bumpers straight and canvas top only had 1 small tear 1in long. I told him to make a refundable deposit and go and pic up car. he paid in full and when he pu the car 2 weeks later it was not as described. Seller would not refund money. he drove from Ontario to Florida for nothing. Had a car inspector then come in and the description does not sound the same as the seller. bent bumpers, 12long tear, holes in body and a hole big enough to put a melon thru in the inner fender ar the rear. Car is in storage in florida. Law suits are pending against seller and E-Bay. That was 2 yrs ago. I tell everyone that if the seller wont agree to a refundable deposit , then back outta deal. period. better to have a negative feedback then loose thousands of hard earned dollars.JMO
I work part-time for a company called Auto Appraisal Group. I am a certified auto appraiser. One thing I get lots of calls for is doing pre-purchase inspections. In other words, a potential buyer in lets say California is looking at a car in Florida on eBay/Craigslist/Internet ad, doesn't really matter. Anyway, they contact my headquarters which in turn sends their closest agent (we are nationwide) to do a thorough inspection of this car before any money changes hand. These inspections usually take me 2-3 hours as I have a nine page report to fill out along with 40-75 photos. I then contact the potential buyer with a verbal report as soon as I finish looking at the car. I have always been able to tell the customer quite a few things about this car that he didn't know yet. It will either tell the buyer to stay away from the car or give him several facts that will allow further negotiations with the seller. Most of the inspections I do kills the deal right there due to unmentioned problems. I have saved hundreds of customers many thousands of dollars due to a bad buy. The ones that go through with the buy either expected what I told them or got money knocked off the price. We also give a full value of the car. Of course this service does cost, usually $350 in most cases plus my mileage. But spending $500 to get a professional inspection is a heck of a lot better than spending $30K for that supposedly perfect car to find out it's only a $15K car when you get it delivered to your door. A lot of our clients are repeat customers also, some are investors, some just car buffs. There is a company not too far from me that buys and sells antique cars as their full time business. They usually have about 50 cars on display at all times. After my 3rd time going their for a client, they told me not to come back because I was costing them business. I told them okay, tell your buyer that I am not allowed to look at your cars and see what happens. They quickly changed their tune and made friends with me. I believe they sold 1 out of about 10 cars I inspected there but they don't try to stop me. They even supply me with a lift and let me drive the car as I please. Oh well, sorry to make this so long but I was just trying to make a point. There are ways to protect yourself using companies like the one I work for. And as always...Let The Buyer Beware!!!
Hummm... it looks like someone is trying to sell the exact same car in CA on craigslist. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/1137205902.html Maybe the seller is just borrowing your pictures from your auction because their car looks the same. Looks like a scammer to me. Anyone called this one and know the story?
i am sitting here looking at this craigslist add, i should be mad but all i can do is laugh. have you guys ever seen the classic movie christeen. i think i own the maverick version of christeen. tim
well i went on the craigslist site where this is posted and it says if it gets enough flags they will remove it. if anyone cares to help me out you can click on the craigslist add and in the top right corner there is a box that says flag. i used the exsplanation they provided that states listing prohibited. craigslist guidelines states that you cant use someone elses pictures for your own add. thanks tim
i found out how to report the item and i guess i will have to wait and see. i know my spelling sucks, but at least i can spell floor. also the price on the craigslist add is -2400.00 now i know the car needs some body work but now thats really hitting below the belt at -2400.00 .
Don't take offense: I saw on TV that scammers try to stay under a certain amount - like $3000 - because the fraud charges are a bigger felony and it will be investigated by the FBI. Under $3000 most local police are too busy to bother with it and scammers are seldom looked into or caught ...........
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/1137205902.html You would think a scammer would use an untraceable number in all their ads German Silvas 2389 Aberdeen Way San Pablo, CA 94806 (510) 758-7454 http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/cto/1137199254.html http://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/cto/1137210501.html 510-758-7123 Same NPA-NXX but no listing
Tim, I see the car sold. Sorry you had to take a little loss, hopefully the sale of the hood will make up for it. Dont let this spoil you desire to have a Maverick. There are still lots out there just will take a little time to find the right one for you.
