Shewt, when you're 16 there is always an engine hoist available! I pulled a 351c from a Torino with a branch on a Mimosa tree on the back corner of the house. Nevermind that I know now that the Mimosa is an extremely weak overgrown weed... By some stoopid luck, it worked out.
I got my engine down to the pistons/block once when it had heads and intake off, and I had dropped the oilpan to swap out the seals, and wondered the same thing..."I wonder how hard it would be to "rebuild" or at leas put in new pistons/rings at this point?" But, I chickened out and decided to wait and have it completely machined and rebuild. But it looked like it could have been done...
