Glad u got it fixed. U don't want to be motoring in this kind of weather, esp., on a long haul w/o it. At least, I don't. With 100+ temps thru-out most of the nation it wud make for an unpleasant trip.. IMO. Hope I will be able to make it. Going to see the ortho spec. tommorrow and see what develops.

I drove the 4-door Maverick to the fireworks last night. Over 100 degress with the heat index....but we were nice and COOL.

Took my old alternator into Advance Auto on Wednesday, July 4th. I get there at 6:05pm. They closed as 6pm. Go back Thursday morning. Lifetime warranty so they swap me out a new one. Install it tonight. Bottom retention bolt hole is stripped out!! Off it comes and I drive back to Advance Auto Parts. They are out of them. Store across town has one. I drive over there and swap it out. Now this new one has a helicoil in the same bolt hole. Oh well....only one in town so I take it. Drive back home. 29.5 miles round trip. Install it. Doesn't seem to work. :( I will take it back off and take it in Monday and have them bench test it.

    The thrashing continues.

Took the new alternator off and took it back to Advance Auto Parts. Checked out fine. Must be the voltage regulator. Get one of those this week.

That would have involved putting a helicoil in it. The one I got already had it done...less work for me I suppose.

Guy at Advance Auto Parts says he sees a lot of them come in with a Helicoil arlready installed. Must be a common problem.

I thought the second one had the stripped hole and the third had the Heli-coil. :hmmm:

Was the one you had on the car to start with screwed up too?

The one I had on the car the last 4 or 5 years (put on when I first built the car) just quit working. I took it in and they bench tested it...it failed. That is when I bought the one with the stripped out hole (2nd one I suppose in this scenario). The third one is the one with the helicoil, and I still have it.

I picked up a voltage regulator today. Hope to get it and the new alternator installed tomorrow.

Took car out today, and had a loud thrashing rattle in the back end of the car, and a righteous exhaust leak that has been there for some time. Found out that the mufflers were trashed on the inside. Got it fixed today, new pipes from the collectors and new DynoMax Super Turbo mufflers. Also got tires balanced, so it is almost ready to go!
