if i found a mustang 2 with a posi rearend, it would have to be 5 lug for me to be able to use it in my 5 lug 8" right?
You will only want to get the pumpkin, or third member. You don't need another whole rear end. From what you wrote, you have a 5 lug axles and 8 inch, correct?
yes, what i meant to ask is, will my 28spline? stock 5 lug axles fit into an 8" four lug m2 3rd member?
Also the 8.8 someone mentioned is a completely different rear. For it to work you'd need to change the whole rear assembly and probably narrow it.
I've never done it, but aside from the obvious cut and remove a section. You have to make sure it is perfectly straight and then you'd have to reorder axles of the right length or send them out to refinish. The rear end from a 57 ford Ranchero or station wagon is a direct bolt in to the Maverick or Comet. Some early Mustang rears will fit but they are a bit wider, just need more backspacing.
powertrax (richmond gear) Lock Right Locker is pretty cheap and I put it in myself and I have NEVER seen the inside of a rear end E VER before. So it is pretty simple if you follow the directions and have basic hand tools and a torque wrench. I didn't even have a torque wrench ( I guessed at it) and everything still went A-OK. The Lock Right is really strong but it is on the noisey side, it clicks and pops when you make the turns. The Powertrax Noslip is a more expensive unit (I think 71 gold has) and it is supposedly a lot quieter than the Lock Right. I like my Lock right though, the clicking doesn't really bother me and I believe if I had a stereo in the car I prolly wouldn't here the clicking and popping. It really seems to bother other people more than it does me. I have had people turn and look at the car when making a turn and have actually had people comment about the noise it makes and when I tell them it is normal because I have a ratcheting locker they give me that look like I am fully of **** or I have lost my mind... LOL I have had it to the drag strip and launched the hell out of it and have tore the back roads up pretty well around my home and it has held up great so far and it's been in fopr about a year.
Ive got a 9inch out of a 67-68 cougar and its about "1 1/2 to "1 3/4 wider on each side than the stock rear end,I can still run stock steel wheels with 245/60/14.Had to cut the "lip" out of the wheel well
if all that your after is to stop spining one tire then the mini spool is your cheapest option. it does require you to turn the stearing wheel further, in wet conditions it will be very unpredictable. the next cheapest option is to put a locker in. there are 3 different options out there and you get what you pay for with them. the cheaper ones make more noise. then you can get a real brand new limited slip. or you can go junk yard diveing and find one used.
