What are your thoughts on the chrome trim?

  1. Restore it (even though that's a bit pricey)

  2. Paint it to match the paint job.

Painted trim looks nice, but I have always tried to stick with (mostly) what the car was originally. Makes it seem more nostalgic that way (y)

Does all mavericks had the trim as the one on your pic? Because mine only has the boomerang but not the other part, the flat one, and that's the first time I see it.

From what I've seen, there are fewer Mavs with that flat trim you mentioned. It goes along the top of the doors, as well, all the way to the front windshield trim. My 74 Mav had this trim, but I've never seen another car with it since. And my 74 was originally an LDO car...

Was this trim only available on LDO cars?

No. It's a relatively common trim on '73+ cars.

No mine doesn't have the bottom either, and the edge on my boomerang is rounded like yours.

But all of them have the boomerang. That just was the first picture I saw on the forum, as I was at work.(y)

I think it looks cool with the boomerang, it kinda gives the boom piece a real purpose, makes it look finished. not so sure about the door window.(y)

My brother removed the quarter windows and put in vents from mustang.. lol
I personally would love if some companys started producing aftermarket parts for our mavericks.

Well, after reading all of these posts, I've decided to keep the chrome. I like the dark red painting on the first photo with the chrome but I want to add the black like in the second photo with the cowl of the third and the lights of the fourth photo. I even have my wife's blessing as long as I keep the cinnamon colored interior. 302 with a T5 Transmission and I think I now, finally, have a goal with a plan. Thanks for the help everyone.

oh man. I love that thrid pic's grill/driving light setup!

I'm leaning towards something like that on my Comet too and will probably just end up with Mustang GT fog lights and custum mesh grill in place of the stock turn signals/grill.

I wonder what parts were used to mod that setup into place. Look's killer whatever they used.

Got a link for that article(if there was one included with that pic).. by chance?

nice! thanks for your time bud. I'll remember that. :)

    That airdam is from a 97 s-10? Well.. I'll be dam'ed! LOL.

    yeah.. I know..corny as hell but I couldn't resist that one. :D

it's funny how the later s-10 grew so much.. cause my 85 looks downright puny(in width AND length) next to my new 71 Comet. It's like 9 inches narrower from outside fender to outside fender.

Anwho.. thanks again and I'll be adding a few tricks from that car to my "possibilities list". (y)

    Your welcome, glad it helped.
I was surprised to see it was a s-10 scoop myself.

Its amazing some of the things maverick owners come up with. :D

I've had that 97 s-10 airdam on my list for my Comet GT as well. I'm just not sure how well it would fit with the front of the comet, the maverick is a lot more squared off.

the car in pic number 2 is listed for sale on craigslist. very cool paint job on the hood of that car. I cant say I like the dark lower half on that car it looks too high I think just the rocker panels in black wouldve been enough but to each there own

like alot of others I really like the car in pic number 3 the air dam fog light set up is awesome I dont like the extra lights in the grill though. maybe if the lights in the grill were a little smaller. the extra lights remind me of the big 69 comet with dual headlights

I painted the bumpers on mine and plan to have it done professionally when the rest of the car gets painted. I want to bring the burgundy stripe down the bumper front and rear but leave the grill and tail light area black
    dsc02377_original.jpg

I spray canned this car in my driveway with walmarts $1 cans of flat black and krylon burgundy but it came out pretty nice. I painted the burgundy stripes down the bumper but I found a run so I just sprayed over it with the black again lol

so I have to say paint the bumpers if you dont want chrome but if you like the chrome leave it chrome. some cars really stand out with a freshly chromed set of bumpers so its kinda what look are you going for

on my car there isnt going to be a single part that will be chrome as Im going for that dark sinister look
