I agree with what your saying about the drugs and what-not and I commend you on that and I am going to say that racing it on the street is NOT cool, but it is fun. I am scared for you cause you are only a youngster and your entire life could change in the blink of an eye cause you are wanting to do ridiculous speeds on the street just to save a buck, but it could cost you a life. One slight mishap or anything in a "uncontrolled" enviroment and someone could die! If I was doing what you are doing I could only hope and pray that it was me in the ambulance and not some innocent by-stander or worse someone's little child. we do a lot things in life for the rush or the adrenoline, but I would hate to think of the crashing hault to your rush if/when you put it in a ditch or rap it around a tree or worse...run over a human being.

Obviously you are going to do what you want to do and no one on this board can tell you not to do it. But I just hope you are aware of the "split second" life changing risk you are taking.
Sorry for the spill, but sometimes I just do not get it, why "we" do some of the things we do. I hate to sound like a parent, but I feel better having said it.

**and as far as bracket racing being boring.......sure wish I lived closer to you, I would take you for a ride in my "boring" bracket car ;)

i also dont race in town. ive done it once and thought it sucked. i race out on 2 lane highways. theres a 4 mi stretch going to blakesburg, and 7 miles south of town theres little soap road which is about 1/2 mile down into a valley, then back up the other side. so there arnt to many pedestrians, or cops.

a trip to eddyville(I agree I dont like eddyville either) is a helluva lot cheaper than getting caught(which WILL happen eventually) too much screwing around in town will get you on the cops little black book of cars to watch( not a place you wanna be)(trust me....growing up in a small town in Iowa myself(y) )

I wont get into the liability of endangering your self, or others since I can understand your still young and really wont grasp it til your older and have more responsibilities( dont take that as a slam,....its just a fact)

the advise people are giving you is good, I'm pretty sure its also not exactly what you want to hear. I'm, all for going fast, make sure that you can stop just as fast as well. your stock maverick suspension isnt up to high rate highway romps, and i know you can relate to those damn Iowa corn fed deer:slap: ,..... anything can happen at any given moment, and increase the rate at which it happens, you decrease your time to react.... personally I dont want to be getting a page from aircare that they'll be landing in 5 and well,.... you know the rest . we arent coming down on ya, just trying to open your eyes. if nothing else learn from some of our mistakes, it'll save you a ton of money and heartache.;)

I, being 17 myself, will be the first to say, sell your maverick to somebody who wont be an idiot in it. Im not a parent, im no older or smarter than you, im a peer. Ive learned firsthand that these cars arent as fun in the high speeds as you think they are. try hitting a dip in the road. I dont mean to sound like a jerk or mean or anything negative. But, you have to take a step into reality. These arent race cars. They are 30+ year old cars with 30+ year old technology. Im not getting into the cost of things such as tickets insurance drag racing at tracks. If you keep thinking about nothing else but going fast and getting street respect you WILL get in trouble or even in a hospital. Seriously dont take offense to anything im saying. If you wanna go fast, go fast. Just make sure you do it in a disposable car. One needs to learn respect for these cars before they can go dropping in v8s and tearing up the streets.

I've been to too many accident scenes involving death or serious injury. A lot of the time it's a teenager that was just out to have fun. Sometimes they only take themselves out, which is bad enough, but other times an innocent bystander or even a whole family loses their lives because some bonehead crashes into them.

What you might think is a quiet road with no traffic can instantly change. If not another car, all it takes is a deer to step out into the road in front of you.

    How cool is that?

    Is it worth it?

Just go do it at a dragstrip so you don't kill anyone.

I agree with what everyone is trying to tell you. Do it at the track. You will get respect from the rice burners, when you beat there butt in the 1/4 mile. My buddy when I was 20, he was 19. Had the same attitude as you do, racing on the street. Wanted to prove he had the badest & fastest Ranchero on the street. Well, one night it happened. He was way ahead of the guy that he was racing & lost it. Killed his fiance instantly & totaled his car. He still had the urge to build a fast car, & did so. But, now he takes it to the track & does it legal. What a price to pay, for a lesson learned. Don't let this be you or someone you love. I personnally like going to the drags on "High School Drags" night. All the kids & there rice burners are there. Nothing like having an old man in a 73 Comet showing them the old school way of going fast on all motor. I love seeing the jaws drop. Just my 2 cents.

1 - Straight line race cars at what? a DRAG STRIP
2 - A fast honda is a lot more disposable than a thirty year old maverick
3 - I seriously doubt your i6 could tear up the streets as good as your friends cars. if it did your friends need better rides

I didnt mean respect for american muscle. I meant respect in the level of maturity to drive these cars without being a jerk behind the wheel.

What kinda of cars are you looking to give a lesson in respect to? Id like to see how much respect youd teach to the evos and wrx sti's around here.

Im sorry but it gets on my nerves to see a kid asking about e brake turns and talking about teaching imports some respect.

not trying to make any enemies

once again a fast hond also isnt disposable, id even say its less disposable. id say that because it takes a butt load of cash. my car will hopefully be mostly done by the time school starts and ill mayby have 4k in it. a fast honda wouldnt have ne real body work to do. the ricers around here seem to have more money that common scince. i think theyd have to spend more than 10k just on the engine to get what i have. and i ealier tired to say that i dont race on the street. i would do it on an empty high way. or say im just going along doing 55 out on the bluegrass and an import trys passing me, well buddy im going to shut them down. i also said earlier that i raced on the street once. well let me tell you about that. it was on a one way street downtown. i didnt even plan on racing this car. the person in the passenger seat is like hey thats a sweet car. im like thanks, then being that i was at a stop sign i took off. i squeeled my tires because they were bald and i could. the person took off past me and i stomped on it. had the mav going 60 in the 25. blew though one green stop light, then i stopped at the next. and this was all in just 2 blocks. but with parralell parked cars all the way, it Really did scare me. ok after that i havnt gone that fast downtown scince.the whole time i was afraid that someone was going to pop out from in front of a parked car so they could get in it, and i was goin to hit them. but i didnt. i know theres no way that i can make you people aware of how paranoid i am when i speed. but i do try to be very carfull. my friends laugh at me because of it some times. say im going about 90 and i start to climb a hill. well i back off to the speed limit beacuz i always get the feeling that a cop or somthing in the road is on the other side waiting for me. theres been lots of times i am right. i used to live in the twin cities in minnesota, and if i still lived there i either wouldnt have my license or id be dead. i hear what every one is saying and i will agree its good advice and somewhere down the road it will sink in, im sure. and i will take my car to the strip but its only an 1/8 mile. there still will be plenty of times coming up that i will travel at ridiculus speeds. or that i may even race at a non-sanctioned drag strip of my choosing. being that this kind of discussion has continued so long, i guess i will be finding out on my own how to get my car to go a buck twenty.

I think the reference that was made about ricers being more disposable is probably in the sense that it's a lot easier to get brand new, off the shelf parts for them than our cars. Anyhow it seems obvious that Nick here is hell bent on doing what he wants with his car and he's probably going to have to learn the hard way, like most of us eventually do. Just hope that lesson doesn't end with someone getting seriously hurt...
