you have to understand that two lane blacktap was done on a closed set and not where someone, like a child, can run out from between parked cars. i hope you don't have an accident that will follow you for the rest of your life. there's enough people on the roads that don't have common sense without adding to the crowd.:slap:

one last thing. all these people that you talk about killing themselves or others. mayby there were doing somthing incredibly stupid. ill tell you about my one experience. last year there were 2 sophmoores at my school. it was about midnight they were driving a truck home. it was raining so the road was slick. the road in the section they were on twisted and turned alot. yet they lived on it. they were going over 100 in the rain at midnight on there way home and the slid off into a ditch. this was about 1/2 mile from their houses. as they went into the ditch the truck turned onto its side in mid air. then the hit a tree and sheered the top off of thier truck killing them instantly. there are still lots of cars with window stickers saying in memory of yates and shaw. i personally think they were very stupid speeding late at night in the rain. its ridiculus. but you people can stop telling about how quick somthing can change because i know.

Alright, I am done talking and reading about this post.

Appearently young fellow, you are NOT getting it! The people who have answered to your post ARE giving you helpful info......your just not listening.
Now, either you are so immature that you do not understand or you are trying to "aggrevate" people who are trying to give you advice, either way to me this is a dead issue (no pun intended  ).

todd was bugging me to read this thread....i'll agree that there ain't $hit in iowa to hit...been there seen it (nuthin to see.) when i was 18 i took my dads' 350 nova to 110. a much heavier car than a mav. on a perfectly open and newly paved road, it was still twitchy. nick, even under perfect circumstances(like the bonneville salt flats on a clear day with nobody around for miles) you are out of your mind to take what was designed to be a grocery getter much above 85 mph. work the suspension and take it to the track. (sorry for bumping this thread to the top guys) my dad once said the good Lord gave you young-uns a strong back because He ain't gving you a brain until you hit 25 or so...when i hit about 25 and a half... the light came on.

    Street Racing.....

well i havent been online in awhile...but most of you know i'm 19. so im a teenager still to. street racing is a scetchy thing. you say you only race an import on the open highway. ok...but things happen there too. Deer have a bad habit of running out into the road where i live. I've done some stupid stuff every since i started driving. i have hit 120 in my mav. more times than once. and the adrenaline comes with it. but there is no pay off at the end. accept nothing bad happening. i understand about shutting the imports down and beating all the imports at school! but you only have a I-6 with 4k in it. i have a grabber with 302 . 347 stroker. and 13k in it. and it's still not done by a long shot...i'm sure many people on here have over 30k invested ....maybe upwards of 50 or 100k. i dunno. you talk about being the top at your school but theres many ricers at my old school that could run side by side with me. and if you have that philosiphy where your gonna win no matter what. your gonna keep pushing it and pushing it till it goes to far. i like watching street racing, it's a rush too. but i wanna keep my car in tact and my driving recored clean... that $300 speeding ticket could be more valuable to me by putting it into the car. and i like driving it too much to wanna lose my license. i know it's fun, adrenaline rush and all but you have to stop and think if it's worth it. but i know nothing will sink in. you'll go do the same thing no matter what anyone says untill you have a ticket a close call or accident. most wrecks for teenagers came from them outdriving themselves and the cars. i've learned that. it's fun to drive fast sometimes. at least do it sparringly! that'll at least increase your chances of nothing bad happening. but aside from that, quit talking trash about racing when you yourself dont have anything to brag about. i love all mavericks, but your's is nothing special. just keep it safe....if you can.

I hate to say it ('cuz I hate ricers) but with a 6-cylinder in a Maverick, unless it's built to the hilt (big $$$) , most ricers can take it in a race, and they handle better and have better brakes...

My Expedition could more than likely take a 6-cylinder Maverick a race :)

Nick, I am 46 years old. Reading your stuff reminds me of what I was like at your age. I am damn lucky I never killed anyone, and very thankful. Two lane Blacktop is one of my favorite movies of all time, great aint it? Its a movie dude. Keep the drag racing on the strip and grow old like me.

ok those post sunk in a lot further. you all werent yelling at me.. i went to eddyville tonight and it was pretty sweet for bracket racing. i cant wait to get my car up there. almost 400 ponies and ill drive there. its a .030 302 block. stock crank and rods. silvolite hyper eutectic flat top pistons. bock is decked .010 as are my heads. they are 1972 cast heads w/ 1.96 intake, and 1.60 exhaust valves. they have ported exhaust, screw in studs, guide plates, soon to have roller rockers. then i have a PAW cam. .442 in, .472 ex lift. 270 intake, 280 exhaust duration, 112 lobe center. and summit headers 1.5inch primarys, 3" collectors. 3" flowtech cutouts. yeah i think that about sums it up. oh wait 83 mustang intake, holley 600cfm carb, with a velocity stack and air cleaner. but like i said its going to the strip soon as its finished. thanks for taking it a little easier.
