75 lb ft as suggested by the manufacturer of my aluminum wheels.

    OOOH!!! This is scary...

I just wrote "whatever my impact wrench cranks it to with 100psi", then decided to go out and test it, and found that it is only cranking to about 38 ft/lbs:mg:

I have been driving for the past 5 years with all my cars' lug nuts at less than 40 ft/lbs!!!!

Wonder if my impact wrench is wearing out...it should be much higher than that.

Never trust any impact that's not made by Ingersoll-Rand. Torque em with full pressure on a 1/2" IR and you won't be able to get em off with a breaker bar. Instead of 38 ft/lbs, they'll be 138 ft/lbs.

    False Alarm...I think...

I went out with the torque wrench set at 75 and checked all 20 nuts on my truck. 4 were just barely under 75, the rest were somewhere above it (immediately clicked).

I guess the car lugnuts are looser because of the Cragar unilug design...it tends to be a bit more "squishy" feeling than the truck.

That's cause of the cheap ass washers they use. Hard to find hardened mag wheel washers now a days..

I usually torque mine until the big vein in my forearm is showing at 3 1/2 inches from my wrist.

Been there, done that! I always torque the lug nuts. Too many different wheels to have the proper torque on hand. I have it wrote down for that car. I get my info from car manual or aftermarket manufactures spec's.

Disc rotors last longer and not loosing any wheels or damaging them! Simple and quick insurance for me! To each his own and any garage that I've gone to know I insist the wheels are torqued back on

I do 100lbs on steel wheels, 80lbs on aluminum.
My 1/2 IR impact is good for around 600lbs forward, a bunch reverse.
My 3/8 is good for 280lbs.
Good stuff. I'm not easy on them and they work perfectly every day all day.
