I like it and it's o.k. to change things up at least the Maverick is not in the bone yard. I still like the Viper powered Maverick too. Change is good.

You see.. the problem with that swap.. is its a Toyota engine.. had it been a Nissan RB26dett then it would be acceptable (y)

No one has answered the question of what kind of car this is.................. Seems to be a 1970 Z28, maybe a 71 but I dont think so.

cant believe all the "ricists" we have on this board

i like jap cars if done right

i love the car... best of both worlds...

combine a maverick and an engine capable of 1500hp without hacking up the car... perfect

cant say i didnt think about it too

ive floated ideas that would make some of you guys cringe with horror if you think thats bad

much props to the guy that built that car

:deadhorse. This has been discussed more times than I care to remember. And always ends the same way. You have your purist who think only a Ford in a Ford, and only American V8 in any american car, blah blah blah. I AM NOT one of those people. You think those Dry Lake racers from the 50's wouldn't have put a 2JZ in a 32 Ford if they had them? Give me a break thats what Hot Rodding was founded on. When all is said and done I'll do what I want with my car regardless of what anyone says about it. It's fun to be a Maverick amists Mavericks!

We cant answer that one without seeing the front bumper, weather it is a full or a split bumper, but it is a pre-74 camaro. I think they look so much better than the late 70's big plastic nose cars.

Hate to say it they would not have even considered it:rofl2:
It was too close to the end of WWII and most of them would not put that "Jap garbage" in a lawnmower.

Sorry but you make a blanket statement like that and you deserve a stupid answer.

That and it still misses the point of hot rodding completely, hot rodding is taking the cheapest parts you can get and making a fast cruiser out of it, not spending more money on the intake for the motor than the whole rest of the car, it defeats the purpose. The biggest thing I dislike about that car is all they did was throw an $8000 motor in it a mustang II fronts suspension and expect everyone to love it.

Weather you guys agree with me or not I think I would rather have one of the 2.3L turbo cars these guys peiced together with parts when they could than a car someone just dumped a whole bunch of money into. That is my idea of hot rodding.

That blanket statement goes to show it has nothing to do with a part or a car it's WHO MADE that part and WHERE! If the 2JZ was made by Ford everyone of you would be dropping that in a Maverick! Those same people who wouldn't put that "Jap garbage" in their lawn mowers are now some of the largest consumers of import cars period!

And there have always been hot rodders who wanted to spend a little more than this or that guy. Does that make them less of a Hot Rodder?

Supra 2jz engines can be found complete w/a trans for as little as $2500 I've found even cheaper than that. Thats 320hp stock! You throw another 1000-1500 bux down and you can make 450+hp easy. Thats a hp bargin in anyones book!

I like both ends. Thats why my Maverick is getting the Cobra DOHC engine and my 74 Pinto is getting a 2.3 Turbo engine which I already bought and is sitting in the garage waiting for the Maverick to be finished. I just hate rasicism in all it's forms!

I agree with you, do you know many times i have had people whine to me about my Maverick front end on a Comet. " That's wrong, you should not do that ". Blah, blah, blah, if it's your car do as you will! That includes engine, body etc, etc, etc.

    I'm amazed at how much boost those jap motors can take.If that's really an $8000 engine,I'd like to throw 8k at a turbo 300 six.Yea,I know it's heavy,and doesn't really rev,but w/some boost maybe...

Personally I think it's a fairly tasteful build. Clean installs all around. Don't know if I would have went all Toyota but hey- not my car. Nice color too.

Actually your wrong on that according to cars.com the average demographic of toyota buyers is 46.6 years old
    http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2008/01/down-economy-mo.html
this would make the average toyota buyer born after the 50's so yes you made a blanket statement. The hot rodders had a bad taste of WWII in their mouths and japanese products were not that favorable, like Marty Mcfly told the Doc in back to the future "Jeese all the best stuff is made in Japan". The really sad part is the same reaction is made when people talk about stuffing a LS1 into a maverick too :rofl2: or even worse a R34 skyline.

Not really we are looking at $4000-$5000 bucks for a motor and tranny + the cost of a completely new $2000 front end to put in an $1500 car,
    You must be single.. :rofl2:

Oh and if you would have read I dont have a thing against japanese I have owned several motorcycles four wheelers and right now I own two Arctic cats that use suzuki motors, I just dont like Toyota.
