My '74 GT was 10 yrs. old when I got it. I tossed the original looking
grey felt/carpet a few yrs. before I started restoring it for fear of
squirrels or rats getting into it while it was parked. It had holes and
stains anyway. I was moulded to fit the floor of the trunk angles.

No offense, but I am not going to put a plaid anything back in it. My
floorplans and trunk are sprayed with bedliner and then I used grey/
black/white splatter paint in the trunk. I don't currently have any type
of mat or carpet in there.

Autocrafters used my original '70 as a pattern for their repops.

No "mat" is fine....until you haul lawn chairs to the car show and they scratch up the trunk floor. 8)

I throw a big blanket in the trunk before the seats and cleaning supplies go in... then take it out at the show ...

I just bought a '74 Maverick and I am pretty sure the trunk mat is from '74 too. It is light blue on dark blue shag carpet. I just considered it a bonus. :)

Put a trunk mat in today ... not sure if I like it or not but don't have to worry about throwing coolers, chairs and cleaning supplies in the trunk anymore .... Wish I could find an NOS original.

The 73 Comet at the Ford Show last weekend had the original mat. It was vacuum formed and fit the trunk pan perfectly. The reproduction ones are slit in the back to let them somewhat follow the form of the trunk ...

I never checked out a repop Mustang mat ... not sure if they are vacuum formed or have cuts like the Maverick repops. I would think they make enough Mustang mats to vacuum form them ....

I have never noticed any of the original trunk mats as being "form fitting". I recall they all had slits cut in them to fit over non flat areas.
