About closing the #3 port. It only closed it about 25%. Sorry about that.

i ran 1.5" headers on my 347 threw 2.5" exhaust it ran 10.60's with the spray, last winter i switched from that and a Victor Jr to a set of 1.75" and 3" exhaust plus a Super Victor intake and picked it up to 9.90's-10.00's.... but it ran good with the little headers,,,just adding my input,,

Those headers will NOT limit the power band to 4000 rpm's. It will make less power then if it had the bigger header but to say that your power band will end at 4000 rpm's is ridiculous!!!

If you put a 1 1/2 header on a 427 with the combo Allen wants then put it on a dyno you will see the power drop off after 4000.It will have great low end but when it needs to move that much air in a such a short time the 1 1/2 will be the restriction.Do not misunderstand me it will work, but he will not realize the full potential of his investment.Herb.

    Hey Guys,
Thanks for your replies! I am still not sure if really fits with out the mods. Lot of guys seem to have put them in but either banged their headers up or notched the shock towers no definit clean fits.
The reason I am really set on doing the 351 if possible is, I am in the process of gathering all parts necessary to build my version of a Shelby Maverick. I feel that it needs to be a 351 to make it different from its 302 brother the "Grabber". Only if it can fit with no shock tower mods. I want it to look as factory as possible. If this can not be accomplished, then I will stay with a 302 built up
in some way. I realize it may not reach its full power capabilties, that is why I have decided to stroke it to 427. Figured this would help offset the power loss on a stock 351W with small tube headers and I figured if I going to stroke it, I should go all the way. How many Mavericks are around sporting a 427 in stock engine compartment with headers. The motor is not for racing except for fun, mostly for show.
Again thanks for all your input.

Sorry to wake up this old thread, but your 393 is a stroked 351W, right.

Do you have big or small bellhousing?

Do you have power steering? Floor shifter?
