Mo I'm thinking that when you thghten down the wheel it's pulling the shaft against something and causing another path for a ground. I don't rember if you have a stock wheel or aftermarket wheel.
Hey that might be the little screw that's sticking up, maybe it's touching the horn ring. Hmmm, lemme check it out tonight.
I have an aftermarket wheel. So I went and put some duct tape on 2 of the screws that stick up a bit. I know it's not the right way of doing it but I tightened it down fully and it hasn't sparked after driving it around this morning. I haven't hooked up the horn wires yet but that was never the problem since after cutting the wires before it was still sparking. thanks Bryant, looks like it worked so far!
Well I'm guessing the aftermarket unit is not in the exact same dimension as the part I took out. But I threw out the old part which was a bad idea so I can't tell what's touching what.
i dont know if the wheel has any effect of this, but aftermarket wheels usually work the horn button with two options. the first one uses the two tracks for the horn contacts to complete the circut there is usually a wire or clip that you cut to make it work. then if your horn is a single wire you dont cut the wire and it grounds out through the housing. i wonder if this could be the cause of the shorting.
well when you're back at the shop I'm gonna have you take a look if that's ok. In the meantime I'm gonna have time to install the leafs and run the wires for the MSD box but I might wait to hook it up so we can do it together. And I'm still itching for the T5, we'll pull that as soon as you have some time.
